ZSNES is only rendering audio

Postby BlueTronic » May 17th, 2010, 7:10 am

I had to reformat my computer recently, and I copied my ZSNES files. But when I record and dump video, it only renders the sound.

Well I only copied the MEncoder file... maybe I have to download it again?

Where do I download it? I don't see a direct link on the site.

I went there. I can't find the download link. There's no EXE or ZIP, just some wierd file formats.

I'm guessing you didn't copy vfw2menc.exe by any chance?

If you need me to, I can upload a ZIP with the correct files somewhere.

Never seen it. I just copied what was in the ZSNES folder.

Yeah, upload a ZIP please.

Err.... no, there's files in the ZIP i have on my HDD.

It did take a while for the site to validate the file, maybe it deleted the files?! :x
I'll try somewhere else (not putting this on atlas, the file is too large).

EDIT: DOH!! The files are set as System and hidden, they're there!
EDIT 2: Download this thing (http://www.petges.lu/download/download.html), it''l solve your system file visibility problems. What it does is add a "Change Attributes..." option below properties on your right-click menu. VERY USEFUL. ;)

Wow. All this crap just to be able to record audio on ZSNES?

[pgversion]PCs freaking SUCK![/pgversion] :x

I downloaded that program, ran the EXE and installed it, but it didn't do anything.

*facepalm* You can't see System files until you've enabled it. I thought maybe you knew how to do that, but I guess I wasn't specific enough...

In windows explorer, go to tools > Folder Options > View

Select "Show Hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide Protected Operating System files" and click Yes to warning it gives you.
Click OK

The files will then show up as transparent, and you can then change them back to visible by right-click > "Change Attributes...". The Change Attributes option is what got added by that program.

EDIT: Eh... I feel sorta bad for leading you down a technical rabbit hole, but it's probably good for experience nonetheless.

Oh. I right clicked, but I didn't see the change attributes button right away.

I copied the mencoder and vfw2mencoder files to the ZSNES folder and made them unhidden, but it still won't render the video. Did I copy it wrong?

Heh, it's all good. I just want to get the video dump working.

You MUST have that specific version of ZSNES 1.51 that I included for it to work properly. Chances are you are using a different version of ZSNES, or the ZSNES file got corrupted.

BUMP (To get Kong-Fu over here)

You need to use XVID LOSSLESS with the options DUMP AUDIO and MERGE WITH VIDEO enabled.

Also, Windows Media player cannot play XVID videos by default (thus no video is played, only sound). you need the XVID Codec for that to work.

...which likely means this entire topic was a wild goose chase.

Hey, I think I just found the problem!

Spoiler!
Windows Vista apparently doesn't come with the AVI codec installed.

So it was never a ZSNES problem, just one of the many, many, Vista problems (Besides the system it self).

I can't wait till I get a Mac. :(
