Any sprite drawing tool for DKC games?

If had a set of sprite animations for my own character, and I want to replace Donkey Kong with my own character via graphic hacking, is there a program avaliable? If such a program exists, if I write my own homebrew game that decodes animated sprites in the same format DKC does, would I be able to u...

Interesting. The actual DMA code just follows a list of updates that is generated through the non-vblank part of the game's code, and stops when encountering a bank that is in the $00-$7f range. All the trickery must be in the code that generates the list. EDIT: Woops. The accumulator is in 16-bit m...

DMA limits in Donkey Kong Country.

I've asked this question on here several times, but I have never got a response. Here are some facts I was a able to find on this website. 1) DKC animates sprites at 30fps 2) DKC has up to 14 animated objects, excluding bananas and HUD. 3) Objects cannot exceed 32 8x8 tiles, except for bosses. Now h...

Any 8-bit or 16-bit platformer that scrolls the player character 1 pixel per frame, and uses a 4fps walking animation is overrated. I could never understand why developers kept using that as their standard, even by the end of the 2d gaming era.
