School has kept me (mostly) busy and away from Donkey Kong, but I have had time to get to the DK Island (World 6) boss. This game is absolutely wonderful, its brimming with personality. The controls feel tight and the environments are gorgeous. The enemy designs are a huge step up from Returns in my...
What do you guys think are the chances of seeing Dixie in some form? I mean, snippets of her were in Brawl's code and she WAS just featured in Tropical Freeze…
Speaking of which, how about a Tropical Freeze stage?
This image of Funky Kong has popped up online, but it's unclear if he's taking over as shopkeeper. That's what most people seem to be assuming, and it's probably the case, but I've yet to find any official word on his inclusion. The image surely can't be fake, though.
You have a point- if you'd asked me about Dixie before she was announced, I would've said the same thing. That I couldn't see her being any different from Jetpack Diddy. And she really isn't all that different at all. But I think it's at least more than what we would have gotten out of Kiddy.
Wasn't Cranky playable in Barrel Blast, too? I honestly don't know what use Kiddy would be. He was pretty much a DK clone in DKC3, I don't see him being interesting or different here. I assume there will be other ways of crossing the spikes. Cranky, as I understand, will be a powerup like Diddy and ...
I don't know, that December 6 release date was lookin' real nice for me- it just so happens to be the day classes end for this semester at my university.
I don't know what they could do with another light-weight Kong that isn't an extra jump/glide and doesn't intrude on the gameplay. Kiddy's added weight could maybe make DK stomp the ground at the end of each jump, revealing secrets or stunning enemies. Kinda like his hand-slap, but after jumps. That...
CaptainEddie, the Kremlings in DKC2 look exactly like the games from the first game. Look at effing Kannon. The third one takes place in a different area of the world entirely after the Kremling power source is destroyed, so yeah, there are different "breeds" of Kremling. You've got me th...
My post is kinda long, so I'm gonna put it in a spoiler tag. Each DKC still had Kremlings , and... Granted, but they don't bear any resemblance to their other designs between games, save maybe for the Kritters. The fact that they're called the Kremlings is good enough? So long as the enemies...
You have to understand that Retro never set out to create an exact replica of Rare's take on the series. If you're implying that the Kremlings are what made the original series great, then I'm afraid you're missing the point. I loved K. Rool and the Kremling Krew. And it would've been fun to have th...
While it's not quite Mexico, I live in southern Louisiana and we have a lot of humidity and fluctuating temperatures here too- and all of my carts play just fine.
Are you planning on making this the first scene? Because I feel it needs a louder start than that- perhaps beginning the way the manual does, with Diddy's capture? And where does the Squawks/title sequence sit? Anyway, as far as the scene itself goes, I think its pretty good. DK could scra...
I agree with Qyzbud that none of them are particularly "scary", but the one that come closest would have to be DKC2. Donkey's facepalm in the first just makes him seem disappointed in the player and I don't even know what to make of Diddy's expression. In DKC3, Kiddy looks sad an...
It's fine for him to fly behind the text; what I mean is, if you were to watch a bird's flight path in real life, it wouldn't be able to to make a perfect circle. Or, at least, it wouldn't make the complete round at the same speed and altitude. It'd be speeding up or slowing down at parts. Hm.. I'm ...
The animation is looking great, it's off to wonderful start! My only point of criticism is Squawks' flying- his whole body should move with the flap of his wings. The Dk64 intro cutscene serves as nice reference for this! Also, I think it'd look better if he didn't make a perfect circle around the l...
Well, I for one am super excited for this game. I thoroughly enjoyed Returns despite a few nitpicks (rolling through enemies not extending and speeding up your roll, for instance) and this one looks great. Sure, Returns and TF aren't EXACTLY what the SNES games were, but they feel like a natural pro...
I must apologize- I wrote that post in a rush and wasn't able to properly explain my ideas. I have ample time now, so let's see if I can adequately express myself. I agree with Qyz that the trees looked better taller; I should have explained that there should be some small trees. If you lo...
Like Qyzbud, I think the DK head needs to be smoothed out and maybe even reshaped a bit...
And to make everything look denser/bigger, I'd recommend ading smaller trees in Kongo Jungle, more trees in Vine Valley, etc... Otherwise, it looks great!
Donkey Kong is looking great! I especially love the hair on his shoulders- it's absolutely amazing. And the head looks much, much better now that it's shrunk and more proportional! I do have to say, however, that the way DK's head hair is styled and how it's so much shorter and neater really makes i...
Wow, DK is really coming together! Other than general smoothing and polishing, which I'm sure will be done once the basic composition is down, I have noticed that his head is a tad too big for his body- though I could be wrong about that. It is most evident from the profile view to me, any second op...
I'm glad I could help! K. Rool is looking amazing, I honestly cannot see any other points that stand out to me!
As for DK, I personally like the DKC version the most, but it's up to you. I know that there are lots of DKC2/DK64 references as well, and I'd be glad to help find them if you need me to!
Firstly, your work is absolutely stunning. Seriously, your posts never fail to make my jaw drop! On the subject of K. Rool's run cycle, it looks pretty spot-on! There are only a couple of suggestions I have. His mouth seems to open and close a little quicker in the original- it looks like it's about...
The bramble levels appear in many worlds, so it may also be a possibility that there was originally a whole bramble-themed world that got scrapped for whatever reason and had its levels strewn about the game.
Prior to DK64, I had never really heard the word "japes" before. Since "hijinks" and "japes" basically have the same meaning, and the word "hijinks" was a lot more common, perhaps it was changed for clarity's sake.
I think a direct prt would look awful, but with some tweaking, DKC wouldn't end up looking all that bad. I mean, it wouldn't be SNES quality, but it could be okay.
