Fake DKC Pictures

Postby cfh » March 16th, 2008, 5:50 am

That fake DKC glitch picture reminded me of some fake pictures I made myself a couple of years ago... unfortunately the best ones were lost when my computer crashed :x

They were all based on gameplay ideas I had, and this is the first (and worst) one I made:

Too bad I don't have to other ones... they were things like an idea I had that Gnawty's could swim on the surface of water and one of Mattdog's ideas where Squitter is on the ceiling and the Kong grabs onto him.

I'm making one where all the objects' ability to defy gravity is disabled, and all objects freeze and fall to the ground.

I'm also making one where a you and a Kloak switch sprites, and one where you throw the object nearest to you.

Here's that "All objects apply gravity" and one I didn't mention that let's you have Rattly underwater.

The Kloak is way too blury. I'll fix that when I make the "Switch Sprites With Kloak" glitch.

Use a real image editing program (not PowerPoint) and maybe it will look more realistic.

Not everyone has these "programs" you speak of. Unless Paint applys, everyone's got paint.

I thought the Kloak was blurred because he was falling rapidly! That was actually my favourite 'design' 'technique' you 'used'. :P

Actually it's a long story. When you take off the color background of pictures in Powerpoint and then try to crop it, an outline shows up. You have to save it as a picture, then open the picture and crop it. The picture that contained the Kremling sprites were big because there were a lot of Kremlings, and saving the picture made it get a lot smaller. So when I cropped it down to Kloak and made him big enough he was blurred because he was a very small piece of the picture.

CFH: If you're planning on making another negative comment about MSPP's poor image editing then save your breath because as Jomingo said, not everyone uses those 100 gig 200$ programs like you do.

I know it's not the point really, but the GIMP for Windows is only 16 MB... and it's free. :)

Back on topic, I actually created a concept shot a while ago for a game I was wanting to make:

Microsoft Office is about $200 >_>

And besides, Paint could do better than the dodgy things PowerPoint produces.

Yeah, that's Powerpoint. I started a little bit of it a few months ago (All I got was the Squidges, the Krocktopus, and 1 or 2 Clambos), started on the rest yesterday and just finished today. The cirle background was the hardest part, which was made from an actual picture of the level.

Simion could make a patch for that. All it is is a background change anyway, so that should be easy to make. I really don't see how it's worth making a patch for, though.

Fret not, the DKCLB will include DKC2 and DKC3. Thus you will get that functionality sooner or later. :D

But no, I currently see no reason to do a patch for that... it wouldn't work anyway because of pallet limitations... unless you wanted to turn the brambles purple.

...There's several things we need for patches more than purple brambles, though. Is it possible to make a certain object appear in front of you? That'd be awesome. 8-)

I guess you'd have to ask CFH that one - he's making the actual level builder part. Although, I may end up dealing with the file I/O and technical level design mechanics.

Best. Idea. Ever. I've had an idea like that floating around in my head, actually. Well, not using all 4 kongs to team-throw at once, but being able to have access to all 4 kongs in one game. =/

...might start looking a bit like Lemmings!

That said, Kongs are far more clever and agile, so it would be wholly unique.

Mattdog had a similar idea. It was just the three main kongs, and you could do tons of different moves, and they would be different depending on which Kong was the "base".
