This male makes some interesting points about DKC. Please watch his video, return to this topic, and discuss, if you please.

Why not just embed the video here, so we don't have to hop back and forth?

Also, why is it relevant that the individual is 'male'

I might have to take a look now to see what's got EvangeliKong all up in arms... :P

- -- — -- -

Now that I've watched it...

It does seem quite far fetched, but the research and observations are impressive and somewhat uncanny. DKC does throw a lot of themes together, and the relevance of them all is up for interpretation... but I personally doubt there's anything going on here apart from some odd coincidences. My hat's off to this guy for coming up with all of this and putting it together, though.

If you do subscribe to the theory presented in the video, it's interesting to note that Rare went from being a very British company working with a primarily Japanese company... to working exclusively for a North American empire... it's like they became a cog in the machine they were subtly speaking out against... :ugeek:

I haven't learned how to embed videos, and the fact that the video's maker is male doesn't have any relevance.

As for my own thoughts, I really think that the video is just full of coincidences, even though there are many similarities.

Hovering over the YouTube tag button in the toolbar (those buttons above the typing area when posting) gives you a brief explanation of the technique. Any time you're not sure how to use a new forum feature, take a peek at the Forum Features board for the low-down; YouTube embedding is detailed in this topic. :)

Give it a go by editing your first post in this topic when you've got the gist of it. ;)

As I thought. Just using descriptive language, huh?

Thanks for the advice on the Forum Features, and yes, I felt the need to word my sentence in a different fashion. Otherwise, the whole infrastructure of my sentences would grow brittle and decay with trembling speed.

I really hate this guy on GameTheory. I would list off his crimes but I'll just give you the top 3.

3. Saying that Final Fantasy is anti-religion (and yet you get revived in a Church in the original game on the Famicom and MSX)
2. Saying that Sonic is not the fastest thing alive (Gnoggin debunked it with the Sonic CD intro)
1. Calling Mario a sociopath (Plenty of evidence against it)

I'm all for theories and headcanons but these kind of things aren't my cup of tea. I mean, bananas are just the Trademark Favourite Food of monkeys everywhere, because of course they are.

I think it's all a coincidence.

I love this video. It takes my favorite game and combines it with an anti-imperialist message about American history (the best history there is in my opinion.)

Sure it may seem far-fetched to some, but it's all backed up by evidence and it explains a lot of the more odd things about the game (a king on a pirate ship, for example.) It would also give the game a theme like the others have (DKC2 = pirates, DKC3 = industrial revolution.) Maybe we can find some kind of historical meaning behind DKC2 and maybe we can even explain other strange things about the series, like nut-spitting vultures or roller coasters in libraries, by looking to history.
