ShaneM's ASM hacks

Postby ShaneM » November 22nd, 2013, 5:59 pm

System: NES (6502 processor)
Original game: Super Mario Bros. 3
Story: The same as the original.

Description: This is a purification work. This is a hack of SMB3 that fixes glitches and restores beta features. The original SMB3 had 90 levels, while this one has 107. I have restored most of the lost levels, while adding 3 e-levels from the GBA version: Super Mario Advance 4. I have restored the lost Hammer Bros. of World 7. I have made use of unused tiles and graphics. The biggest feature: I've added Parabeetle Plains! The new levels have been given an unused Ghost House sprite on the overworld maps. Features, as well as the original damage system have been restored from the original Japanese version, too.

There are two lost enemies, too: gold Cheep-cheeps and green Parabeetles.

ShaneM's Super Mario USA Hack

Postby ShaneM » November 22nd, 2013, 6:09 pm

This is a hack of Super Mario Bros 2, USA. But, the 1992 Japanese version. I chose this version because it has the most bug fixes. Some of the changes:

*Updates palettes to the SNES version
*Fixed various bugs at the end credits, such as Clawgrip, Birdo, etc.
*Restored World 7-1 to the original Doki Doki Panic (FDS) version.

Patch it to a clean ROM, called: Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA) (Rev A).nes

Super Mario Bros. - Double Trouble

Postby ShaneM » November 22nd, 2013, 6:12 pm

By: ShaneM

Well, this is my first masterpiece. This is a work that I first started back in 2011, when I first began to learn how to hack. With this game, I’ve learned how to use tools, graphics editors, then ASM! This game was to make SMB1 with SMB2J features, as well as other beta features! Changes compared to the original SMB1:

-All graphics taken from SMB2J.
-The game is now 1 Player, where Mario/Luigi have their 2J jump physics.
-The SMB2J Flagpole routine was used here
-The Player now gets points awarded after beating a Castle Stage, just like 2J.
-Skid sound added, from 2J.
-Fixed a bug at the end of all water areas/stages.
-Palettes have been optimized for various sprites.
-The Minus World has now been fixed.
-I have added the SNES SMAS (Super Mario Allstars) water tile from it's SMB1/TLL.
-I have optimized levels, as well as add beta enemies, such as the left-fast Firebar.
-I have added 2J enemies, such as but not limited to Flying Bloopers.

I have included SMB2J on Side B of the disk! As of now, Nestopia is the only emulator to fully support disk-switching properly. If you need help with this, ask me.

SMB2J new features:

-I have added the SNES SMAS (Super Mario Allstars) water tile from it's SMB1/TLL.
-Palettes have been optimized for various sprites.
-The skid while wind blowing sound glitch has been fixed.
-The pause glitch at the end of 8-4 and D-4 have both been fixed.
-The message in World 9-4 has been translated into English.
-World A-1 level design has been optimized to match the SNES remake, where a glitch is fixed.

I hope that you enjoy my hard work, and hundreds of hours of labor!

Postby ShaneM » November 28th, 2013, 7:55 am

By: ShaneM (Aduel)

[This is solely an ASM hack. I did not use tools. So, please do not inquire of what I used. My assembler was ASM6, by Loopy. This hack will be up for one month and I will take it down in January. It may be found here, after that: http://tinyurl.com/ldqa96v )

Did you beat my original SMB - Double Trouble? (http://tinyurl.com/m84kot9) Looking for a more tougher challenge? Well, have I got just the challenge for you! I present All Night Nippon SMB with bug fixes and a brand new version of the Lost Levels! The game has been thoroughly tested and is indeed beatable. Changes:

ANNSMB:
--------
-All stages are now night.
-The Player starts with 5 lives, just like in my SMB - Double Trouble
-Added water tile from SMB SMAS
-Palette fix for various enemies
-Fixed various Castle inconsistencies on some X-3 stages
-Fixed a glitch on World A-1

SMB2J-CH: (This game can be found on Disk Side B. For a guide on how to switch disk sides with Nestopia, see here: http://tinyurl.com/mxcb65s)
=========================================
-Contains all the bug fixes as SMB2J in SMB - Double Trouble
-The Player now starts with only 3 lives
-Red Piranha start on 1-1; Hammer Bros. always move forward; Bowser throws hammers starting on 1-4; etc.
-You need 12 stars to unlock Worlds A-D
-The game over message at the end of World 9 is slightly different
-I have doubled the game's original difficulty and changed various elements to make the game more difficult

From Dec. 09th to Jan. 14th I will be taking requests for one of the following:

-FLYing GYRADOS
-SURFing PIKACHU (For this Pokemon, you will need to provide your own Pikachu, just like in stadium. Your file must still be saved in a Pokemon Center, though.)
-AMNESIA PSYDUCK

Send me you save file via PM.

You must follow these guidelines to receive it:

It needs to be at least to the point where you receive the Pokedex, yes. Make sure that you save in a Pokemon Center, too. (For some reason, when this is done, the timer in incremented by 30 minutes after I add a Pokemon. So expect that.)

When I finish my Red in February, I will host a promo for that, too. Occasionally, from then on, I will be hosting promos on certain dates, which I will list here. Thank you and Happy holidays!

Okay, it's official. My SMB1 hack will be complete on January 1st, 2014 and available here for download! (I've already finished it and am merely testing for quality assurance purposes.)

Here are some pre-release photos, just like Nintendo officially does with it's Nintendo power magazines. ^_^

The purpose of my hack is to add Lost Level features. This hack is PURELY ASM. So, do NOT ask what tools I used!

Image

One player, of course, with changed player physics and gfx. (Compare my palettes to the original. It is even better than the original and Wii palettes! See below for original.)

Image

Me showing off my Red Piranhas. Starting at 6-1: ^_^

Image

Image

Image

I've added negative Warpzones, too. (I have improved z-order on the coin that I underlined to match Lost Levels):

Image

Aggressive Hammer Bros. start at World 7, too:

Image

I've added most beta features. Like unused enemies and an unused timer. I've even added flying Bloopers! (From the Lost Levels):

Image

On side B, I've added The Lost Levels! (I've made use of every single beta tile, as well as fixed EVERY single glitch!):

I've added All Night Nippon on as a 3rd game, too ^_^ (My 5-in-1 will be released come this February. Stay tuned for further details.):

Here it is, my long-awaited hack, as promised.

Changes from the above:
-Added Poison Mushrooms
-Added Green Super Springboards to World 8

Patch it to a clean, unheadered SMB1 FDS ROM.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/nev8ryczssf1ydl/SMB1.5_SMB2J%20(1985-86)%20(Nintendo)%20(Japan).ips

Code: Select all
To install the BIOS to Nestopia, first, open Nestopia. Then go to Machine on the upper left (next to File). Once there, go to External, Disk System, then Options. Once there, click on browse and upload the BIOS file from whichever directory you have it in. Then click on Ok.

To switch disk sides, go to Machine, External, Disk System, Insert, then select Disk 1 Side B. Now, what you want to do is go to Machine, Reset, Hard. That's it; have fun!

Here is my .pal file, too. To install, go to Options, Video, then select the .pal file to use. http://www.mediafire.com/download/6x9jo ... Custom.pal

Re: ShaneM's ASM hacks

Postby ShaneM » January 10th, 2014, 9:54 am

Here is my SMB1 & 2 hack (SAME GAME AS THE ABOVE FROM JAN. 01st), with amazing bug fixes. This is version 1.1. List of changes:

-Fixed victory music end of level sfx glitch

-Fixed the Game Over Lives glitch. Where, if you accumulate more than 128 lives, you would get a Game Over. (Register A now stops counting at 128 lives. For more, see: http://www.mariowiki.com/List_of_glitch ... _Game_Over )

-Fixed Music scroll repeat and flagpole glitch

-Fixed broken Hammer Bros code and optimized it

-Added onto certain levels

-Fixed pause glitch that would sometimes mute ALL sound (including SFX).

-Good housekeeping with unused, residual code… 0 and I mean ZERO free bytes left! Even after code optimization. ^-^” (So…I CANNOT add the Game Over menu from SMB2j: Lost Levels. You’ll have to do A + Start with any character from the titlescreen after Game Over.)

I have fully tested it and it seems to be 100% stable. I have put over 20 hours into it over these last 10 days. If you find a bug or another issue, please report it to me through PM. Thank you and enjoy! (Note, SMB2J is still on Side B! See above on how to switch disk sides within your emulator.)

PATCH it to an unheadered SMB1 FDS ROM, called: "Super Mario Brothers (Japan).fds" or to the one with 65, 500 bytes.

IPS patch: http://www.mediafire.com/download/lcq3y ... 20(1985-86)%20(Nintendo)%20(Japan)%20(REV%20A).ips
