Weird Stuff I Found In DKC3

Postby Markster » August 10th, 2010, 7:19 am

I discovered some weird stuff in DKC3, in one of the water levels i found a wooden crate from DKC2 and that crate does not appear anywhere else in the game, and also i was looking threw DKC3 hex data in a hex editor and i found stuff that klubba said in DKC2.

Isn't that weird?

Wasn't this mentioned elsewhere on the forum?

I suppose that Rare re-used the DKC2 image to build DKC3.

I do know that the decompressor function of the game is very similar to DKC2's but has a few modifications.

I'm pretty sure that is what Rare did. Why create an engine from the ground up when you can simply overwrite pre-existing data. This is likley why you found Klubba's text.

That one's got to be Barrel-Drop Bounce. ;)

Ah yes, I always remember I used to sit there and just stare at that crate, then try to bring it safely to the end of the level... Never worked. Rare removed it from the GBA version, so maybe it really was a mistake (or some developer just felt like messing around, I dunno.)

Really? I've played Barrel Drop Bounce more than every single DKC3 level (except the first few levels for obvious reasons) and have never noticed it :P

Edit: whoa. That's really really really crazy! I have noticed the crate, several times in fact, though it never really registered to me that it belonged to Donkey Kong Country 2.

Here's a pic for anyone interested:
