Talk about Donkey Kong Country Returns for Wii, developed by Retro Studios.

Another DK Wii rumor!!?? I'm not getting my hopes up.

However, if it does turn out to be a [non-arcade] Donkey Kong game, then I'll be satisfied.

Holy crapsacks!

I...I won't get too excited. I remember the DKC4 rumors of last year, and the disappointment. But if they actually bring back DKC back...I'd..I don't even know.

EEEEEK! :o :o :o

Even if it is a DKC4 game, we still have to hope they don't butcher it. You wouldn't want to get excited just to find out they took it in a horrible direction, would you?

Need I remind you all that Metroid Prime 2 (made by Retro Studios) had some of the best graphics on the Gamecube?

If they are doing such things, and they're taking it in a good direction... then this may be the break we have been waiting (ten?) years for.

Yeah, I'd say it's about 10. DK64 came out in 1999, so that's just about right. If Retro can make a game with the same direction as that, and make it as good or better, I'll be satisfied. At this point, any news of anything DK-Related is satisfying news.

I'm not worried about graphics. If I'm not mistaken, Retro Studios never made a action-adventure platformer before. Only Sci-Fi Shooters. They may not have a platformer in mind. If they are doing a platformer DK game, this will be a completely different thing for them.

Would you be this optimistic if the creators of Call of Duty were making a Mario platformer?

I wouldn't be optimistic if the CoD folks were making a Mario game, but that would probably be because I don't like the CoD people and wouldn't trust them with the franchise. However, since DKC doesn't seem to have anywhere to go at the current time, I suppose anywhere is better than nowhere.

Maybe.

I am more than faithful that Retro can do this. Sure, they've made mostly Metroid-based FPS's, but you know what? At least SOMEONE is getting the damn franchise. We literally have no excuse to b...*bleep*...ch about this.

Tiptup makes a good point. Someone's doing something for the franchise we care about that has had no real love for almost 11 years.

I don't think there's any reason to complain, and if we do, it seems...wrong.

yep, simion32 is right. What they did with metroid series was damn good.

And you guys are talking about CoD developing a mario game. That's a fair enough worry. But you're also forgetting that Miyamoto will be very closely attached to the project just like he was in metroid prime. SO, there's not much to worry about there.

Did you know Miyamoto was the one that developed the idea in regards to different 'visors'? (though, he called it having 'bug heads' ha).

I'm only worried about whether this is true or not, not whether Retro can do it well. I KNOW Retro WILL do an amazing DK game if they really are making one, but there's still a possibility this is a rumor. First, don't expect this to be anything like DK64. It will be 3D (if it exists), but it won't be like any DK game we've seen (if it exists). Also, Retro will make an incredible looking DK Jungle (if it exists).

Needless to say I'm am extremely eager to see what happens with this.

Indeed... and apparently a NeoGAF user with eyes on the inside has said this particular project has existed since as early as 2006... Looks like that Donkey Kong Wii of Revolution lore wasn't a myth after all! :)

I'm not complaining, I'm just saying don't get your hopes up. The chances of this being a platformer game are slim. I probably won't even buy it if it's not a platformer.

@Kong Fu: I think you`re being a tad pessimistic. If not by strictest definition a "platformer", I believe this will be a huge game for DK and put him "back on the map", in a sense.

However, there is also the possibilty that we`re being dicked with and this is all a hoax. Let`s hope that`s not the case!

What exactly could this be if not a platformer? It's not like they'll make a DK FPS. This will be a platformer, though it could be a very loose interpretation of a platformer (as in more of a focus on combat or exploration rather than platforming).

I just thought- there is a huge, huge chance that this is going to be a 3DS game. It makes sense that Nintendo would use something as big and epic as this to get its baby off the ground... just sayin'.

Eh. It'd be a mixed bag for me, really- I'd prefer it on the Wii, but there's a persistent rumor floating around the 3DS will be as powerful, if not more so, than the Wii in terms of graphics and processing power. In due time we'll see.

It's not a Handheld game, I promise you. This has allegedly been in development since '06, way before the 3DS was thought of. A handheld game would be way below Retro's skill level, you can expect it to be a full sized epic platfomer on par with Galaxy.

The gameplay looked really diverse, yet still true to the oldskool DKC gameplay we all love.

in my opinion Retro did a pretty good job at it :).

Actually, I'm pretty sure I saw one or two at the very start of the gameplay vid.

They were fat/bloated like skippyballs or something.

They wouldn't leave K. Rool out. Especially if they're going for the nostalgic DKC element they seem to be.

At any rate, I saw Diddy and DK, I was excited. Unbelievably excited.

Holy cow! I can't believe Nintendo was willing to fulfill our wishes!

It's too bad I missed that part of the conference, however. The only part I got to see was the 3DS, but even that was awesome ;) .

I'm happy about this, even if DK has a new enemy to face other than K.Rool - we should be satisfied by now that they're doing ANYTHING with the franchise. And I am definitely satisfied! :D

Yeah, I didn't see any Kremlings either, but we'll have to see about that when it comes out this holiday season (that IS the release time... right?).

By the way, no this does not mean the Level Builder stops... in fact it will continue on with even more thrust. I'm motivated!

I saw this on G4's E3 coverage and knew these forums would be a buzz about it. :D

Nintendo is bringing back so many nostalgic franchises!

Now that you mention it that video was lacking K. Rool. It really would of raised hype to include him a little towards the end like they did with the eggplant wizard for kid Icarus. It just wouldn't be a return to country with out him

Here's a better trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGqI3XQ3PUY

But people... I have a daaaangerous feeling about this. Yeah, what we've seen is great, but Retro can still mess things up from here- those three things at the beginning that Donkey Kong stomps on are JUNGLE BEAT FROGS. Be warned.

Heh, I thought those were Kremlings when I first saw the trailer live :P.

Oh well, still looks great!

Right now I'm just left wondering in what ways this will be similar to the OG DKC trilogy.

Will it have "worlds"? Will it have a lost world? Will it have K. Rool and his kremling army?

Man that's a snazzy homepage. Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

I'm SO EXCITED

And I'm not worried about K. Rool. I'm sure Retro won't forget him. It'd be like forgetting Ridley in a Metroid game, and they kinda sorta didn't do that either.

And they might be JB frogs, but maybe they just wanted to include them. One main difference between this and Jungle Beat? This has Diddy in it. Yup.

I've got faith in Retro, we'll just have to wait and see. In the mean time...

This has a story and the trailer :D

Story is somewhat disappointing though in my opinion...

Co-op is confirmed though, and the gimmicky "wagglan" thankfully seems to be minimal :D (Only mentions slapping the ground by shaking the wii-mote)

•For the first time ever, the franchise features the ability for two people to play together at the same time (additional accessories required and are sold separately) - one as Donkey Kong, one as Diddy Kong. Players can navigate the levels separately or as one unit. Diddy Kong can ride on Donkey Kong's back and hop off whenever he pleases, allowing novice players to ride on Donkey Kong's back through more challenging areas of the game

Taking a note from New Mario Bros maybe? I sure hope so.

...Yeah, so, I know I'm posting constantly, but it is just blowing my mind how epic this is. Do you all realize that we have been waiting, hoping, and praying our entire lives for THIS MOMENT? And it's here! Donkey Kong Country has returned to its rightful place at the DK throne. The arcades are being put in their rightful place with Mario vs. DK 4. Life couldn't get any sweeter.

Well, it could- I would literally drive a red-hot nail through my hand if I could play this now. :P
