What internet browser do you use?

Postby Qyzbud » March 3rd, 2008, 1:26 pm

Personally, I'm a Firefox fan, and I'm designing DKC Atlas to look best in Firefox, but am also testing it to make sure things still work in IE 7 & 6. There are some things which look a bit different from browser to browser (such as the positioning of page elements), so I'm trying to find a happy medium for everything. That said, if something can either look good in only one or the other, I'll pick Firefox.

So I ask, what browsers do you guys use to surf the 'net?

Firefox.

Of course, the only other thing I've tried is Internet Explorer. Ewww, Internet Explorer :x

Firefox.

Internet explorer is a virus-ridden, no-good exploitable piece of junk.

IE6. I'm too lazy to update to anything else, not even to IE7 - I'm far too accustomed to IE6's button layout. :P

It's even aggravating when you don't use it. Almost every program I have opens URLs in it, and I always end up having to use task manager to close it. :x

Firefox. During lunch hours my fellow workers sometimes complain about the billion viruses their computers pick up, and I keep wondering what their problem is. My only conclusion thus far: they're using IE.

I was just like you until I read this post. I realized this site had been running extremely slow for me. So I switched to firefox. It's working fine so far

Don't worry guys, I managed to lure Kowz away from the dark side. All it took was a little persuasion:

Eh... Not as long as it would have taken to optimise DKC Atlas for Internet Explorer (or AOL). Time well spent, I say. :D

AOL needs no optimization. It works fine.

That's good to know, thanks.

I find that a little surprising, as I thought AOL Explorer was based on the same layout engine as IE (Trident). Are the next/previous buttons on Ropey Rampage's Level Info page (link) aligned perfectly with the World 1 - Level 2 text?

Like this:

The arrows appear lower in all IE browsers I've tested.

I use Internet Explorer 7. It's not too complicated, not too colorful, you know. I've tried other browsers, but I can't stand them. Seriously people, what's wrong with you guys? :o

IE messes things up, gets cluttered with useless tool bars, gets viruses, can't adblock in the slightest, has a retarded download method, doesn't have spell check, is harder to clear browsing data, can't open accidentally closed tabs, and is much harder to customize, among many other things.

Seriously, Tiptup Jr., what is wrong with you?

It doesn't even let you listen to music on in your browser. You have to download it to your computer! It doesn't even let you choose your own desktop either!

Apparently, I'm not as geeky as you guys are. No offense, of course.

1. You can easily remove any "useless toolbars".
2. With the help of Mr. Norton, you can block every single pop-up in existence.
3. Retarded download method? Excuse me?
4. I am the king of spelling. I don't need no spell-check!
5. Yadda yadda yadda.

And for that other guy, I have tried AOL and Firefox. I just didn't like them, okay? Is that a crime? No, I think not.

Why bother having a browser that gets those useless toolbars?
Tiptup Jr. wrote:2. With the help of Mr. Norton, you can block every single pop-up in existence.

You can also do that with Firefox, without installing a ton of crap on your computer. I use Firefox and Kaspersky Antivirus+AntiHacker... Norton? I got rid of its trial version 3 years ago.
Tiptup Jr. wrote:3. Retarded download method? Excuse me?

It opens a window for every single file you download, no matter what you do... Firefox only opens one window. And if that annoys you, you can get an addon to remove Firefox's dowload manager and replace it with the Download Status Bar: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/26.

Seriously, Firefox makes your life much easier.

Yeah, plus essential Add-Ons like Ad Block Plus, which blocks all ads, any images/flash objects you want, and even the ads on YouTube videos. I actually didn't know there were ads on YouTube until my computer crashed and I had to use a person's computer that only has IE.

And the Download Status Bar is amazing. You have full control over your downloads, you can even pause it and resume later.

Another thing, IE always opens new windows while FIrefox opens new tabs, which is just so much better, especially when external programs link to the web.

How do I put this...

Yes, Internet Explorer may suck. But I don't care. I started using Internet Explorer when I was five years old, so you kind of get used to its flaws/minor imperfections. I don't get pop-ups and I don't download any
useless toolbars

So, as far as I'm concerned, IE works fine.

Hang on, I just noticed a trend...

What internet browser do you use?
Kong-Fu: AOL
Jomingo: I have AOL 9.0

cfh: Firefox.

. . .

Sign in problems...
Jomingo: ...everyother time I post it makes me log-in again.
Kong-Fu: ...it signs me out at random times.

cfh: Strange, that never happens to me.

nickp17: I had the same problem till I switched over.

Okay guys, seriously...

To be perfectly honest, browsing around with Firefox now and nothing really feels that much better than before... :/

So I guess the main problem is with AOL... IE seems to at least function acceptably. Firefox will give the best appearance (especially on the Level Info pages of the DKCA site) and stability, I believe. Oh and Kowz - I'm a little surprised that you aren't in love with Firefox, but I'm sure you'll get to like it more in time. I do remember having to fix one or two things to work in IE6 for you, so I'm sure that you will have less chance of things like that happening. At least that's a plus for using Firefox when browsing this forum.
