Dixie/Diddy exit dance trivia

Postby SLY JO » November 24th, 2008, 12:53 pm

After completing a level via jumping on the pole (from high enough), Diddy or Dixie will do their dance.
Dixie plays the guitar left handed (right hand on frets, left hand plucking).
After defeating a boss, make Dixie look to the left of screen. This time when she does her solo, she will perform it right handed (left hand on frets, right hand plucking). If Dixie is facing right, she will do her solo as usual.

Anyone else notice this?
(Dixie is sure talented to be able to play guitar on both sides  )

I'll check to see if Diddy also swaps shoulders for his boom-box.

I have noticed it too. They look odd.

Diddy also swaps sides.

I think it's because the game swaps the sprites when they turn around; and if they are facing to the left, they will start dancing facing to the left.

Eh, I could play that tune left handed if I read the tab.

Would be cool to play, but it would be hard to get that sound.

A friend almost got Dixie's tune in an acoustic guitar.

Of course, if he'd continue the strings would rip xP the tune is too high-pitched.

Haha, that used to be my ringtone until my dad made it clear that he wasn't fond of the way it sounded... My current message tone is the pirate sound that you hear when you read K. Rool's note in Pirate Panic. Perfect. ;)

Hey! This gives me an idea for a new topic: Do you DKCustomise your life?

I think the sprites do swap sides because when a Klomp turns around, the peg leg changes sides.

So, while on the (very old) topic of the exit dances...

Has anyone actually figured out what all the possible triggers of the golden boombox/guitar are? To date I've seen this in three levels, all with very specific causes. For example, in one it's caused by a hidden timer that looks at the exact time you completed the level in. In another, it's leaving an animal buddy behind.

The fact that it seems to be intentionally coded in makes me wonder if this is built into more levels, triggered by completely arbitrary scenarios dreamt up by some very bored Rare employee in the 90s. What if discovering it for every level were how to earn 103%? (Just kidding.)

If anyone can crawl the code for hints about this, that could be interesting. We know the levels it is in, so could relevant code be sniffed for in other levels? Perhaps references to the golden sprites?

I've never seen anything in the game's code to indicate that the golden boombox/guitar were intentionally implemented. They seem to be palette glitches caused by objects being present where they shouldn't be (or at least where the developers didn't intend them to be). A similar glitch is described here.
