Why does K.rool’s Keep have a Skull and Crossbones?

Talk about Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest for SNES and VC.
The GBA port can be discussed in the Port (GBA) subforum.

Why does K.rool’s Keep have a Skull and Crossbones?

Wouldn’t it make more sense to be a Kroc and Krossbones? I thought I saw that they fixed it in the GBA. But I’m probably mistaken. :parry:

My theory: It's a leftover of an earlier design.

That particular flag is a sprite, unlike all other Jolly Rogers in the game which are on the background layer. For this reason, it was likely overlooked when the rest of them were updated to use the final Kroc and Krossbones (Jolly Krocker?) design.

Ok, that makes enough sense. Thanks, Mattrizzle. I do feel like your this site's DKC historian. Is it fair to call you that? :parry:

:EDIT: You gave me an idea with your Jolly Krocker! A rebel band of kremling pirates form the never ever nearly honorable league of pirates. They work to overthrow K.rool and Kunning helps them with their evil plots. They fly the Jolly Krocker! Versus the standard (flag) of the kremling empire, the krock and krossbones. Dun dun dun.
