Do you mean a '101% run' or just a 'beat the game run'? If you mean 101%, that's really hard to believe, I think the world record is 0:44 for 101%. A few hours ago I just got another 101% DKC game in 0:54. I'm sure that every time I play for a 101% speed run, I will only cut the time by 1 or 2 minutes, I did die a few times, and I got a couple delays, if I avoid the delays this time, and not get hastey, I might end up with a time under 50 minutes some day.

EDIT: Once again, I improved my DKC 101% time, it is now 0:51.

I meant a beat the game run.

Yeah, it's insane to get a 101% game in 0:45, but it's possible. What is your best time for a 101% DKC game anyway?

I never tried a 101% speedrun.

I haven't run through any of the DKC games in a long time, now. I guess I have phases I go through where I'll play one game to death for a month or two before moving onto another.
At the moment I'm playing Banjo-Kazooie, trying to get a new run up on the SDA. My last time was 2.57 (within 2 minutes of Marshmallow's time) but I'll be aiming for 2.40.

After that's over, I reckon I might get some time with my beloved DKC before BK:N&B's release later this year, hehe. Perhaps try and beat my record.

It's a shame Microsoft bought Rare, now Banjo will be realeased on Xbox 360, which I don't have, .

Anyways, I don't know if I'll try another DKC 101% speed run today, I spent almost 3 hours tring to get that time, because I kept restarting whenever I made a big mistake, (dieing, missing a bonus level, etc.), but now when I play, I might have to restart after a little mistake, (losing Expresso/Enguarde/Rambi, accidentily stop running/walking for a second or two, etc.), this could be tricky...

^ You should keep going in the case of a small mistake. It's good practice for later levels. Only case where you should restart from a minor mistake would be if you were recording, or if the run was segmented and you had greater control over your errors.

When I run BK, I'll keep going with my runs unless I die after going through half a level or something, or run out of eggs/feathers. Minor stuff isn't really a worry; but at the same time BK is a completely different game, so I guess it depends on the situation. I wouldn't be restarting a run completely after mistakes like those, though.

I don't really restart the runs completely, because I save my game whenever I get the chance, and if I restart, I just start from my last save. You have to waste 1 second switching from donkey kong to diddy kong though, because you start with donkey whenever you restart, but 1 second doesn't matter a whole lot, .

Yes, you do, even on the SNES. I click reset software when I blow it, and even though I saved with Diddy in the front, it puts Donkey in the front.

That's weird. What version of the game are you using? I have V1.0 and when I save with Diddy, he is in the front.

I have version 1.0 and when I save DK is always in front when I go back.

I have this on the VC, so V1.2. I also have this on the SNES, but I don't know where it is.

^ if I recall correctly you can easily check which version your game is by going to Jungle Hijinx and trying to walk through the perched necky enemy on the rock.

From what I recall DK is infront when I restart. I use a PAL version 1.00, though. If it happens like that in V1.2 then it would lead me to suspect that most other versions do the same... something that should be looked into further methinks.

Stop with all this version investigation!
The file which supposedly had Diddy in front has him in front, but because he is the only one there XD Sorry =P =(

I did another DKC 101% speedrun... and I got 0:49 again, . Oh well, I'll try again soon, but I'm going to improve my DKC2 102%+40 DK coins time for now, and I'll probably get DKC3 off the Wii Shop Channel sometime this week and work for 103% on that.

EDIT BEFORE BUMPING: I improved my DKC2 102%+40 DK coins time to 3:11.

I Beat my 101% DKC time! My record is 0:47, (sorry I didn't edit my last post, but I can only bump a thread once unless someone else posts after I bump the thread, so posting is the only way to bump the thread).

EDIT AFTER BUMPING: My new DKC2 102%+40 DK coins is 2:43.

Played through DKC again a week or two ago.... damn, need to practice. 1.42 was my final time for 100%. I'd like to break the 1.00 barrier, but I'm playing too many other games at the moment and it's hard to play this over and over again.

I might try and see what I can do for an any% run of the game; all my times posted thus far have only been for 100% runs.

There are many other things of been doing, so I have hardly played DKC at all in the last month, I don't even have DKC3 yet, , last time I mentioned, I said I would probably get it that week, but that was a month ago, *points to post*, I just got SMRPG about 2-3 weeks ago, and I like it, I am also waiting for Wario Land II and 3 to arive at my mailbox, so it will probably be a while before I get DKC3.

EDIT: Sorry if I am getting off topic.

Thanks, and congrats on your 105% file. I might do one 105% file, but I probably won't do speedruns on it.

EDIT 9 hours after bumping: I forgot to mention, I beat my DKC 102%+40 DK coins time, it is now 2:17. I won't update my siggy right away, probably after I beat my DKC3 103% time or something.

My new DKC3 103% record is 3:30. I may update soon, but I feeling like improving that DKC2 time again :(

EDIT AFTER BUMPING: My new 102%+40 DK coins time for DKC2 is 1:58, yes! Made it under 2 hours! I will update my siggy soon.

My best time for DKC3 (Maxinum percentage.) is 3 hours and 51 minutes.

I would've finished it earlier if I didn't stop making mistakes in Konveyor Rope Klash (I find this one usually easy.) and the last one... Good thing I went through Swoopy Swalvo with ease.

EDIT: I now have a new record: 3 hours and 41 minutes.

DKC2
Game Version - PAL (on SNES)
Percentage - 102%
Time: 4:12
Now I remember where all the bonuses/DK coins are, I may do a speed run.

I was pumped about new Banjo on 360 until I got red ring of death again. I sent it off and Australia Post lost my 360 :( . So I called them yesterday and they're now doing an investigation into where it is or whether they will pay for a new one.... jerks.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I was practicing my speedrun of DKC, and everything was going really well, I thought I might beat my previous time of 0:37, but when I got to Oil Drum Alley, my game blacked out  .

Any suggestions for making sure this won't happen again?

Yeah, I finally had the time to beat DKC3 PAL with 103%
The time is 7:35, which I think is OK for the first time finishing the game :)
I also found all bonuses and DK Coins except for Springin' Spiders DK Coin and one of Swoopy Salvo bonuses. I just got too impatient in the end :?

But something bothers me - I didn't have internet when I started the new save file, but somehow I had the HARDR code in mind - shouldn't I have 104%?

Maybe I haven't visited Swanky yet or something similar...

Or maybe it just doesn't give you 104%...

Good news! (Well, for me anyway) I just did a speed run of DKC again, it went well up to Gorilla Glacier, where major mistakes came in, but overall, the speed run went pretty well. I beat my previous time of 0:37, and got 0:36. I know, not much of an improvement, but it's close to my 35 minute goal, (which I might change to 34 minutes).

Set the goal to sub 30 ;).
I haven't been speedrunning this for a long time now. I'm sticking to TASing for awhile.
Current progress for that: Just finished Snow Barrel Blast with an in game timer of 14 minutes, 2 seconds and 45 frames. Not too bad.

Are you kidding me? The time on SDA is 32 minutes, and it's segmented!

Yeah, I know that. Sub 30 is possible in the theory, but it will require you to use several of the TAS tricks that you don't even know about, and they are hard to do on console ;).

I'm currently working on my first sub-hour DKC save file, I'm stuck on Gorilla Glaciers. 5 stages before you finally reach the save point are too much for me. ;)
I usually save right after beating a stage, where it is possible. My performance is totally inconsistent...

Now we know what to expect from Tompa when he starts working on obsoleting the current SDA record :)
