Simion, why didn't you just let us know this earlier? If you let us know right away, we wouldn't continue our current mistakes  .

Actually, I think the only problem is the length of the levels, as the graphics can be just general layouts.

Extending shouldn't be TOO much of a problem...

So... all levels need to be as long as Winky's Walkway?

Width: 5048
Height: 512

All horizontal levels need to be at least 5048, (We will set the minimum to 5100, so we won't end up pushing the length at the end).

What about vertical levels? Like Parrot Chute Panic?

Sorry, there were just so my replies as soon as you created this topic! It literally took off. I didn't have time to post because I was working on DKC's Physics - which, by the way, are in progress RIGHT NOW. Check out the DKCLB thread for a preview.

Okay ppl here's the update for the Balloon sprites. ;)

UPDATES:

-Balloons are now size accurate with other DKC balloons
-Strings are now a "bright white" colour so they can be seen better
-Knot on the end of the balloons is now larger and now more accurate to previous balloons

Thanks,

I'll redefine the minimums here:
-> Remember that we're using 32x32 tiles here, so all level dimensions must be a multiple of 32.

All Long Levels:
Height: At least 224 or more (224 is the smallest that DELTA can display height-wise, this is a hardcoded limit)
Width: At least 5120 (some elbow room allowed, this is just a general limit.)
All Square Levels:
Generally around the size of Bramble Blast, or bigger.
All Tall Levels:
Height: Enough for a good level. I don't know what to put here.
Width: At least 256 or more (256 is the smallest that DELTA can display width-wise, this is a hardcoded limit)

Those balloons are great King K. the Krool! They are still too pixelated though  , if we could just fix that, they would be PERFECT!

Also, thanks for the info Simion, it will help us!

Before my post, I'd like to point out to Simion32 that I am not a jack@$$, okay? Yes, we can let you manage it, but note that we had a good roll going, even if the posts were off. OKAY, here's an ad I created using Gamer_Boy's avatar (through permission) and DKC1's Funky's Flights music. (Although on the link, it doesn't play. :|

Don't worry about the double post. It's not like me to make a big deal out of it. I'll state what rule was broken and make it clear, but I'm not uber-strict. Jomingo on the other hand... </sarcasm>

I do apologize, and I'm sorry for the slight outburst of negativity. I tend to get cranky when developing stuff and it doesn't work (having problems with the physics, trust me this stuff is ten times more difficult to solve than a Rubik's Cube). I will try to analyze my posts/thoughts better before posting, as we don't need any negativity here. One thing: please don't use such foul language here.

Nice balloon King K. Krool! But shouldn't the string move as well?

Also, good list Simion! I don't mean to be mean, but is it okay if I'm one of the co-directors? I first created this project so I feel maybe it would be okay if I was one of the co-directors...

Hey guys, i've really been thinking about this DKC 4 thing alot and I think i may have gotten ahead of myself a bit :P I made this mock-up visual layout of part of a "would-be"
level. I even added the balloon sprite I made lol. Lemme know whatcha think ;)

UPDATES:

-New sprites added courtesy of gamerboy (Purple Klampon, Blue wall/ceiling climbing Slippas)
-New sprites also added my myself (3-headed Necky and a new enemy i like to call the "Shadow Zinger" as it disappears and reappears every so often and when it reappers its a dark purple/blackish colour)

You should make it longer. Hey, instead of bringing back enemies, we should make up our own. Like the way DKC works, they only brang Gnawty back for DK64. We could keep some enemies like Zinger and Necky.

Awesome! That would be excellent for the end of a tree towns level. Length, however, is only a problem if this is the entire level, which I assume it's not.

That still might be difficult, but at least with GB sprites you'd have something to work with instead of nothing.

Sweet! However, I think we should stop recycling DKC enemies :( .

I noticed we will turn DKL enemies to DKC.

There are lots of things we need to make though:

1. Animal Buddy tokens for all of them except Enguarde and Expresso.
2. Animal Buddy bonus levels.
3. Spike, his crate, and his no animal sign. (And not to mention, his token and level too)
4. New enemies. (Which we are working on right now)

The life balloons are almost ready to be actually cut out.

I don't really see it necessary for you guys to make a lot of new enemies. I mean, in DKC2 and DKC3 most of the new enemies were just clones of old enemies. Perhaps a mix of enemies from all three games would be better than creating all new ones(which, as Simion noted, would be very difficult.)

I just thought of something...

DKC had minecarts
DKC2 had rollercoasters
DKC3 had sleighs

What vehicle should we do for DKC4? (I was thinking a train on a dangerous railroad track...)

EDIT: I created a big set of sprites.

1. Purple Klampon: It's just like the purple Klaptrap in DKC, it jumps when you jump.
2. Slither: I posted this in the create your own enemies thread. It's pretty much a Slippa, only it starts on the ceiling and tries to fall on top of you when you are under it, then it's pretty much a Slippa.
3. Blue Krockhead: It's just like a green Krockhead, but when you jump off of it after touching it, it will sink and never come back until you replay the level. This can make some levels relate to a puzzle to put together if you have to jump back and forth for certain reasons (also, all blue Krockheads before the star barrel will not be there if you restarted from the star barrel).
4. I also created the four bananas for the, "Collect one of each banana!" bonus level.

Thanks for apologizing, Simion. And, sorry for cussing at myself. Hey, I'm much worse than you.
(Checks new jobs) Hmm, this looks alot more accurate. That tree top level thing is looking great.
Also, Gamer_Boy wanted a porqupine (My spelling is bad) animal buddy. We should base it off of the DKC2 porqupine, but them he couldn't be an enemy.
Also, I found something very disturbing. I was searching on Google images and found this:
http://www.vgboxart.com/boxes/Wii/16974 ... y_4-v2.png
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I did reasearch and IT IS REAL! We're gonna need a new title, but DKC5 looks as if Nintendo's gonna get there first... How about Donkey Kong Island?
Those are my Smudged up updates, I'm not online for very long.

Anyhow, it shouldn't be a train, I agree with Simion32's argument. (Dang, he'd be a great debater) What do I think? A go-kart. That'd be good especially if a boss idea I have gets put in the game: (After a NASCAR car driver) Krash Earnheart (That last name comes from Dale Earnheart Sr., not Jr.)

SmudgeKWOOD, gamer_boy997 and others...

Not to rain on your parade here, but calling this a 'Donkey Kong Country 4' project is really not appropriate for what appears to be simply a fangame brainstorming topic. I've discussed this briefly with Simion, and we both think the 'project' and this topic should be renamed to something more befitting.

Something like the suggestion below may be suitable for now:
"Title here" fangame brainstorming topic

I'm happy for you to continue sharing ideas here, but since you are mostly working with recycled content, let's drop the 'DKC4' references.

Cheers.

I changed the name to: Fangame brainstorming thread (please share your ideas!)

It is slightly related to the previous thread name, but keeps the "DKC4" and "project" out of the way.

EDIT: You know... now that I think about it, what's wrong with calling this fangame "DKC4"? Sure it recycles, but so did the other games :| .

Cheers, little peoples. :D

Are you kidding me? First of all, had DKC4 really been announced than it would all over this forum and many others, it would not go unnoticed for you to eventually find on Google images. Game announcements are bigger than that. Second, you were seriously angry when you thought DKC4 had been announced, just because it would take the title of this little fan game(which, might I add, was mostly made because everyone here wants a DKC4). Besides, that picture is very old, it's even been posted around these forums before...

Actually, that name comes from both Dale Earnhardt (that's right, it's spelled Earnhardt) Sr. and Jr. They both have the same last name. That's how it works.

Anyway, I don't really like the go cart idea. I thought a train would work(and Simion's argument of it being identical to a mine cart isn't really valid, as there wasn't really a difference between the mine cart and the roller coaster).

So why exactly can't we call this DKC4? it's recycled content..yes...but we're making new sprites and new levels so i think that counts for something, i even made that kiddy balloon from scratch, so unless rare threatens to sue why can't we call it that? lol
