DKCLB Sprite/Animation Submissions

I was wondering if you needed any help custom editing some sprites to make certain things work, like what aperson98 said about the DK on a horizontal rope. I edited Markster's sprites to make a DK on a horizontal rope. I would love to be able to help with difficult things like this! Please let me know what I can do to help! (I'm also working on putting all of the Kongs on all of the animal buddies; that means idling, riding, and jumping.)

I don't need those, as the Kongs are separate objects and are programmatically linked to the animal buddy object(s), not via sprite combination. ;)

If you do any sprites be sure that Kongs are separate from anything they would be on/carrying/etc. The same goes for any other character or object that throws stuff (bosses, etc).

It's very important that the explosion effects, dust, missiles and such also are separate graphics, as this is controlled by the game code. Think of each effect, "bullet", or physical object as a separate entity.

What about Rattly? The other riding animation for the Kongs work for all the other buddies except Rattly. I did make an animation for Donkey riding him by using DK's rope sprites (it would have just looked silly with his normal riding animation). How would you go about actually using that for the level builder?

Rattly is one object, and DK is another object that attaches to Rattly (which is allowed by a particular object type flag being activated).

It doesn't matter what sprite DK displays, just that he's a separate object.

The linking of two objects together for riding an animal is rather complex, and I haven't completely figured it out yet. The object API is still under construction, so there aren't any guarantees yet.

Right now, I'm working on making Dixie swinging. I'm using part of Diddy's swinging animation in combination with several of Dixie's animations. I'm taking some from her riding a buddy, jumping on Rattly, and floating up (from Windy Well). I don't know if I want to do Kiddy, as his will be much more difficult (and I don't like Kiddy anyway :P).
Let me know what other animations would be helpful. Next, I was going to try to make DK on two vertical ropes going up and down.

Be sure to use RE so that you catch all of Diddy's rope swing frames - the animation has to be quite smooth for it to "pull off" the look... ;)

I actually just used ZSNES to rip the sprites and I'm using Photoshop to edit them. I haven't had any trouble animating with photoshop. I think all of them have turned out rather smooth.

I have been a very busy bee today. I fixed up my sprites of DK going up and down two ropes, made (simple, yet effective) floating sprites of DK and Kiddy (like for a windy well-esque level), and I have Dixie on a swinging rope almost completed.
I was maybe going to make Dixie and Kiddy sprites like they are close to a ledge, but I might not. I would like to prioritize and get some more important things out of the way... maybe DK carrying another Kong and being carried? Let me know if there are some other things of greater importance.

You're better focusing on the sprites and animations that don't exist rather than ones that could be "pasted together" without extensive editing.

I have done much editing to all of them except for the Kiddy and DK floating. I'll probably edit them more to make them look better. For those ones, I just took the animations of them getting hit and looped them. They admitedly don't look great (DK looks better than Kiddy, though), but if I can add some motion to things like DK's tie and Kiddy's socks, they'll look legit.

Dixie swinging took forever... there was a lot of editing that went into that... and still more to come. Maybe I'll do Kiddy next, if I can figure out a good way to do it, first.

I was going to upload them today... but I'm an idiot and I forgot to save the animations files.... they're still in PSD form >:| I might get to upload them later today... I hope so. I think they're pretty good looking. I've fixed them up and re fixed them up a bunch.

What would be the most important thing for me to work on next? I'll have a lot more time for the next few weeks because of my break.

You know I'd rather have the PSDs with individual frames in it, Phyre. GIFs have color problems and are not acceptable for LB. Sorry. :ugeek:

What would be the most important thing for me to work on next?
No idea presently. my memory's a little foggy.

The way I have it now is the actual process of the animation. I have the rope behind her on a separate level. I can go through and delete all of the levels with the rope behind her, if you like. Do you want it like that or in the form of a sprite sheet?
Would you also like the PSDs for DK on a horizontal rope?

Yeah, I'd like those too. Just leave all the layers for the PDSs in, I'll need them as a reference point.

Making it a sprite sheet would make the animation impossible to accurately place back together, so I need the reference ropes/levels/whatevers that you used.

Okay, so I still need to do some fixing up for Dixie swinging. I'm also going to be working on Kiddy swinging.

Here are the files of DK going up and down two horizontal ropes, and DK moving on a horizontal rope. I'm also going to put him going up and down the ropes in the animation section of the forum.

Let me know what you think!

EDIT: I forgot to add the DK down two ropes! I added the wrong file, first! Fixed now!

Here are the PSDs of Dixie and Kiddy on a ledge, Kiddy dropping jaw, Kiddy crawling, and DK with a bass. The Kiddy on the ledge contains all of the ones I took out in the second animation, for anybody that wants to use it.

I kinda figured you'd eventually make this a separate thread!

Have you been able to use the PSDs okay? I had some troubles because when using the animation window, the objects in the layers like to jump around.

I think that I have the big animations of Diddy complete. I didn't really edit that much for some (because I used the dancing sprites from the GBA version).

Sorry about this... I had to fix a few things. Here are KoolFreeze, FireKracker, and Bakwards, fixed! This should be the last time I have to do this! Also, one of the frames is not used in the regular animation. That frame is for when a Kong jumps on them.

I also removed the previous ones, so nobody gets confused...

Okay, this next one is going to be all the frames for my last Diddy animation. This includes all the frames of him with a heavier Kong (teaming up, idling, jumping, moving, and throwing). There are 70 some frames and they are not all edited, but they are in order to show you how everything goes to make it easier, so you don't have to figure out what goes where.
