IRC?

I like to chat with people directly instead of just writing in the forums all the time. So I wonder if an IRC channel could be fun to have.
What do you say?

I would appreciate it, but there are other things that should be done first.

Yeah of course. I just suggested something. No rush is needed at all.

A good idea, and now that I have good internet access, it's something I can involve myself with.

Anyone else interested in internet relay chatting?

Sounds good to me.

I probably wouldn't be using it too much, but I agree, it'll be good for a chat every now and then. :)

Maybe in these vacations it would be a good idea.

I'd like an IRC channel to get to know some users better. I only talk to Qyz and Gnawzooka really. :S

Of course, who wouldn't want to talk to me?
Seriosuly though, why not just use MSN or something?

Gnawz makes a good point about using MSN or other IM programs - we already have a system for users to share their IM info, too. Still, I do rather like the idea of having a centralised conversation spot that anyone can log in to at anytime if they're in the mood to talk DK. I'll look into the possibility of a DKCĀ Atlas IRC channel this Friday/Saturday.

Yeah, but there are some people who don't want to give their email address for MSN or don't want to register another one just to talk with people in the net *pant*

IRC Room?

I was thinking about the possibility of creating an IRC room for DKC Atlas, or some kind of live chat here; something a bit more instant and encompassing than the shoutbox we have, y'know? Not to mention something we could talk in while not having to be on the website itself. I think it would lend itself well to further communication.

One problem: You'd need to have an IRC client, either as a stand-alone program or a plug-in. Some users still use Internet Explorer, even to this day, and that program does not possess the ability to run IRCs (unless it's translated via PHP, Python or some other programming language). Just to clarify, I'm a Firefox man. But I don't know if people are willing to install a plug-in/program or switch to Firefox just to access the chat box alone.

There might be other cons I've missed, but some of the pros from this chat box can serve as cons. Qyzbud could fill me in on that.

I agree wholeheartedly.
LightIRC is a lightweight flash-based IRC client. Everyone, even the IE-users have flash, so I can guarantee nobody would be left out from the chat room. Advanced users could connect with a real IRC client.
People who use outdated browsers are the cancer of the online world. Shape up or ship out! :swanky:
