A dump of Dinosaur Planet was released yesterday. Here is a link to the original Twitter post. They had to give a few places for the upload since their servers got overloaded due to all the downloads.

I haven't played it yet. In the original post, they do say that it runs kinda bleh on emulators but it works well on actual hardware. This might be the reason for me to finally break down and buy a flash cart... Or wait till somebody makes a repro! This build is thought to be from around 2000 and a notible thing is that Fox was already in the game. Until now, it was believed that he wasn't added until the move to the GameCube.

I played it on an emulator and I only got one serious bug. Fatal System Error upon pressing A really fast during the N64 logo and the Rareware logo. I thought it was very high-resolution for a N64 game! I liked it alright and it definitely wasn't the teen rating that Starfox Adventures was. Not that I'm an expert on this subject. Or even that I have played any games beyond Banjo-Kazooie, DK64, Diddy Kong Racing, MarioKart 64, and Jeopardy on the N64. Maybe it could just be intense. I was surprised that all of the text had actual voices! Not like Banjo-Kazooie, but actual recordings! Also, loading a save state causes it to crash.

I tried this at one point, and I definitely noticed some of the problems Phyreburnz alluded to, but I didn't mind. Although I couldn't figure out how to progress beyond the first area after the ship, this still looks neat.

I was surprised how finished this game was. I assume that it was going to be released in 2002, is that right? Also, apparently people speedrun this. What I did notice was that some areas are missing polygons, which is odd. Huge swathes of white in the floor. :parry:

Yeah, I had that issue as well, but apparently, the game works better on actual hardware. Maybe I'll try to replay it one day, but for now, it's interesting anyway.
