Nice comic.

I'll start working on my comic, but it will be next week...

Here is my first comic! (Which really stinks). I used the sprite from a site I forgot the name to, and the backround from... DKC-Atlas!

Spoiler!

Okay, as Donkey Kong said, I'm going to need some help. First of all, I make comics the cheesy way, I print the screens of the sites that have the sprites, then cut the sprites, and put them in the backround, but as you can see, the small backround around the sprite still remains, how do you get rid of it? My program only cuts in, I believe, squares and rectangles, I might check later to see if it cuts in other shapes, but either way, how do you get rid of the backround around the sprite?

Yes, I also use a word document for words.

EDIT: Nevermind, thanks to Comic Sprites Tutorial, I found the solution!

EDIT AFTER BUMPING: I have a comic! It's much better than the first one, but it's still not perfect. Yes, the quality is bad, but it didn't let me post the comic at first, so I tried changing it to PNG, thinking that would help, but it just broke the quality. After that, I found the REAL solution. Next time, I will remember not to use PNG.

I dunno how you managed to screw up that bad, but hear my word, PNG is the best format you will even use for sprite comics.

Hmmm... I'd give your comic a 2.5/10.

Needs lots of work, like you said.

EDIT: Well, it's done! It's too big to be on this page...

Hehe, that's a good reason! Now, I wonder why they removed that pusing a wall animation... I would make comics, if I could come up with something original and DKC-related :(

And on a side note...

Did you notice your rank, Guy? :P

Yes, I just noticed it.

I'm sure the wall pushing was removed since all you have to do is go against the wall.

I took a snapshot of the water BG in DKC2, brightened it, and made it transparent.

10/10 Kong Fu! That was hilarious! I was thinking of making a similar one where DK mouths the words to a song on the radio, until it started to skip.

As you saw on "DK plays the scary maze game", Chibi DKCPlayer had a gym ball. DK and Diddy finally ask what it's for:

I have a new comic! I hope you guys like it, since it took me almost 2 hours to do. The explosions do look a little wierd, because I couldn't find the actual sprite anywhere, so I had to copy it from a snapshot on Gamefaqs, then sort of "redo" the sprite. You will also notice that I use an unused sprite found by Mattrizzle! I would like to know three things about this comic.

1. What do you like about it?
2. Is it better than my Mankey Kong vs. Manky Kong comic, (currently my best comic so far).
3. On a scale of 1 to 10, how good is it?

Humor. what else are comics good for? :P
gamer_boy997 wrote:2. Is it better than my Mankey Kong vs. Manky Kong comic, (currently my best comic so far)

Yeah. Mainly because the speech bubbles are neater
gamer_boy997 wrote:3. On a scale of 1 to 10, how good is it?

Other than the bubbles not being 100% straight, it's pretty much an average comic, so 5/10

Kong-Fu wrote:Other than the bubbles not being 100% straight, it's pretty much an average comic, so 5/10

Ugh... I expected at least a 7 or 8  .

EDIT:
Improvements:
1. Speech bubbles are WAY better.
2. Quality is better, (PNG seems to be better than JPEG).
3. It's longer, (although that doesn't usually matter, in this case, I think it does, cosidering 4 pages is really short, and 6 is probably average length).
4. It's not all in one scene, however, it's 5 pages is in one scene, 1 page is in another  , but's it's still improvement.
5. More characters, (same with improvement #3, it may not matter, but 2 characters is really small, while 5 is better).

All in all, it's improvement from my last comic, and that's what counts. ;)

Sorry, hehe. Normally a 2 hour comic would get a 7/10, but you can't do much with paint, so... yeah.

PostPosted: November 22nd, 2008, 12:50 pm
by gamer_boy997
1. It wasn't quite 2 hours, probably 1 hour and 45 minutes or so, 15 minutes is a pretty good fraction of 2 hours, so this does make a little bit of a difference.
2. I also used a word document for words, other then that, what else have you guys been using? I read, "you can't do much with paint so...", what is it you guys have been using?

Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2007

Any Powerpoint will work (especially better than paint)

DKCplayer wrote:And I see that you added a few more Snapjaws and a Lockjaw! :P

Those extra Snapjaws were actually there already, you just couldn't see them because the water wasn't transparent enough. I also made the text bigger, and the comic itself is a bit smaller.

Someone else actually came up with that a year ago and told it to me, but it was a little differently and it wasn't DKC.

EDIT: Here's another one. It took me about a half hour:

Hmm... I would give it a 4/10, sorry  , but it's too short, and there isn't much to it really. I can tell, a 30-minute comic isn't that good even WITH a powerpoint.

I have one of the powerpoints, but it's old, is it still better than paint? If so, I might check it out.

I might start another comic, hopefully it will be better than my last one. I'll make sure I do the speech bubbles well.

Definitely ;)

Mostly because you can move and edit pictures and shapes around easily. Plus you can do twice as much with it. Just don't bother saving your comic (or for that matter, any picture) as a GIF in Powerpoint. :P

I give last gamer_boy's comic a 3/5.
Kong-Fu's, 4/5.

gamer's because of formatting, but I didn't quite understand what was the barrel for =P and, no offense, it wasn't that funny...
Fu's, because of the comedy in it, though it's kind of short XD

And yes, PowerPoint is an awesome tool to edit images.

You mean the unused sprite? It's kind of hard to tell, but the kremling that got fried was actually INSIDE the DKTNT barrel, then when Donkey threw it, the kremling got fried, so that's why Diddy said that when you try out something, use a kremling instead of a kong first.

New comic! Just like the last comic, I would like to know a few things:

1. What do you like best about it?
2. Is it better than, "The DKTNT Barrel"?
3. Why yes or no for #2?
4. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate it?

Also, for this comic, you guys can go ahead and continue it...
Spoiler!
By having the Kongs actually take a journey! It could be our own DKC4 series!

Improvements:
1. Speech bubbles are better.
2. Comic is a little bit longer.
3. More characters!

It's a good comic, now for the questions:

gamer_boy997 wrote:1. What do you like best about it?!

It's funny, neat, and you did a good job with the sprites.
gamer_boy997 wrote:2. Is it better than, "The DKTNT Barrel"?

Yes.
gamer_boy997 wrote:3. Why yes or no for #2?

Because it's neater and the joke is clearer.
gamer_boy997 wrote:4. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate it?

I'd rate it 8 out of 10. It looks neat and polished. The joke is okay, but it could use more originality. :( But I think it's a good comic anyway, so don't worry. ;)

Spoiler!
Why does Cranky like Expresso and Winky?

Re: Sprite Comics!

PostPosted: December 30th, 2008, 4:56 pm
by PotoGamer
I don't know, but I guess he probably took that idea from the fact that Cranky has a Winky on display and (in DKC2GBA) an Expresso in a cage on his museum. Or maybe he just likes them because they only appeared in the first DKC, and he hates the sequels more than the original.

In the DKC2 SNES manual, Cranky says he likes Winky and Expresso and asks where they've gone.
