Not bad, though I can see why they dropped that animation. :P His arms just don't look like they have much force behind them.

Phrye, would you be able to make an attack sprite for flapper, maybe something like him swooping down and attacking with his beak or the Kongs being able to kick things in front while riding on flapper?

Swooping sounds interesting, but I'm not sure of the point of having the Kongs kick. Would it just be an attack to kill baddies, or would it be more for moving objects like barrels?

I'm experimenting with DK on Squawks. The first one is an edited sprite, and the second just uses DK's rope swinging sprites.

I'm working on making turning sprites for the Kongs on Squawks.
I have a feeling that Kiddy and DK are going to be a bit of a problem. I've just finished Dixie's.

Now for DK... I was working on his last night and so far I have one of the two edited frames. It may not seem like one frame could take that much, but I have a feeling it will be difficult. I got lucky with Diddy and Dixie because they have the animations of going from one rope to two already made. With Kiddy, I used his turning on the rope sprites along with the animation where he gets hit for his feet. I'm not sure how well DK's will work, but I'm gonna try!

*EDIT*
I might just redo this, but here is what I have of DK's turning on Squawks animation. I don't really like it, but right now, it's better than nothing.

A bit of an update, I'm making turning animations of all the Kongs on the Rambi, Ellie, and Enguarde. I have to still do Kiddy on them all, and DK on Enguarde and that's it. So I'm almost done with that.

*EDIT* Here we go! Lots of animations of turning on stuff!

I have everything done, but there is a limit to 5 attachments. I'm not sure if triple posting is a good idea, so I'll post tomorrow (or after somebody else posts... which probably means tomorrow :P)

They are basically the same, but the sprites are somewhat different to make the Kongs fit nicely on each buddy. I'll add these to my sprite sheets. Remember to check back often, as I do have a bad habit of changing them often... but hey, things need updated! :D

*EDIT* I've animated DK turning on Rambi using the unused sprites. So, that one hasn't bee edited at all.

With the exception of Kiddy, all the sprites that you used for the "looking straight ahead" frame doesn't really match with the rest of the sprites in the animation and makes it look really jumpy. :/

Yeah, I know. The problem is that with the regular turning frames, each Kong only has two. Enguarde turning has three frames, while Rambi, Squawks and Ellie have two... so there's not a whole bunch of sprites to pick from that are straight ahead... I was basically stuck with Dixie and Diddy's double rope sprites, DK losing the bonus, and the double rope sprite Doug Kong made for Kiddy.

Here are the Kongs turning on Ellie. They are basically the same as the Rambi ones, but with a few pixels added and/or subtracted to make them fit better.

I pretty much used the unused DK turning on Rambi sprites. I might redo it and use his regular turning animations... but the reason it looks like that is because I think he bends his back forward and puts his hands on the side of the buddy, instead of his hands staying the same.

Okay, so I've attempted to make a new Dixie on ledge animation. What I did is I took the GBA animation of her on the ledge, and did my best to match each body part to a snes sprite. I worked on this pretty much all day, and I don't know if I'll want to touch it again... maybe, though.

I went back and redid Dixie's victory dance. I figured out what was wrong before, and now I think I'm going to leave it. I wish I could have different feet for it, but there aren't too many sprites of her feet at a three-quarter view.

I also fixed the map victory dance, which looks about the same, except tiny.

Speaking of maps... should I make map DK and Diddy swimming and on the boats like they have for Kiddy and Dixie in DKC3?

*NOTE* For some reason, it won't save the length of time for each frame, so some times it moves too fast or too slow... in this case too slow.

I think what I'm going to do is make DK use that unused attack (as seen in the second version of switching) for Kiddy. It makes sense that he could just kick Dixie to make her move. To move Kiddy, he should have to put a lot of weight into it. Keep posted, because I'll upload it soon!

*EDIT*

Here is DK and Kiddy switching.

So, I'm trying to think of a better way to make DK and Kiddy float. I was thinking about using DK's rolling on a steel barrel animation, maybe. I was just kind of screwing around. Let me know what you think. Does it work, should I try something else, or should I edit it?

dk-floating-test.gif
dk-floating-test.gif (44.41 KiB) Viewed 199830 times

This only has a few sprites edited, and they were just rotated 90°. If you think the barrel sprites look okay (I also will probably make his tie blow in the wind), I'll work on rotating a few more sprites to make the animation more seamless, if not, I'll try something else.

I'd have to say that this animation works. The way DK's face looks, his moving tie, and especially his moving feet make this seem believable.

If you look at Diddy and Dixie, you see that their hair/tails/whatever is blowing upward, making it look like wind resistance. DK's arm, on the other hand, is going downward. For the full effect, I think you should change that arm.

I think I'm going to have to work on his hand a bit more. There aren't really any sprites with his fingers extended from the back. You see his palm a lot, but not the back. I think what I need to do is bring the fur up a little bit more.

kiddy-slap-dk.gif
kiddy-slap-dk.gif (17.21 KiB) Viewed 199637 times

This is important, there is only ONE edited DK sprite, and that's the last slap one. Originally, DK's palm is straight up and down. That wouldn't work for the hands I gave Kiddy. I edited the last DK hand to make it go straight out horizontally.
dk-slap-kiddy.gif

I was too lazy to put it into one animation... :P

When I upload the PSD, both animations are in one PSD. So all the sprites are in one, I just didn't animate both together.

I've made Funky's biplane from DKC2 able to turn, so it can be used in a level. All I have to do now is rotate some of the regular sprites to make the plane able to move up and down. That shouldn't take too much work.

There's a few things that bother me that I'm not sure I can fix.... The propeller looks like it goes in and out, and the wings look like they flex a little bit. I would like to fix these, but I have no idea how.

I could upload it if anybody wants to try to edit it further. I'm stumped right now...

It's a definite improvement!

I see what you mean about each of the issues you pointed out, but they are quite minor nit-picks in an otherwise excellent job. The only issues are with angles and perspective... which I'm sure are really tricky, but should be fixable with a bit of extra work. If nobody else is keen, I'll give it a go. :)

I think the trial and error approach - reshaping the wings in a couple of frames - could help with the apparent distortion... and I reckon the propeller need to be shifted gradually lower as it points toward the 'camera' (our viewpoint). Those changes should have a positive effect on the animation's flow. :geek:

Top work, yet again. They really are just minor quirks - it still looks phenomenal!

Well... thanks for the support.... as creepy as it was!

Okay, so I have Funky's plane going up and down, now.

*Question* do the propellers look okay? Do I need to rotate more frames for when it starts to go back down from up high, and going back up from down low? If you look, I just reversed the animation for it going up and down... but the propeller looks like it goes in reverse when headed back to the original position... is it noticeable?

Qyz, are you going to attempt to fix my abomination... err.... animation of the plane turning... or should I try to fix it some more?

*EDIT* Fixed!
