DKC Papercraft thread

Postby Raccoon Sam » May 29th, 2008, 7:20 am

Yeaaahhh..! In case you didn't already know, Papercraft means printing a template that upon cutting, creasing, folding and gluing forms a three-dimensional statue. I believe everyone of us has done a cube craft back in kindergarten, it's the very basic one.

Papercraft in general is just taking the whole cube-principle further and going for more complex models, like a Thwomp from the Mario series or something even more complicated, like Howl's Moving Castle..!

The central of all papercraft and their trading across the internets is 4chan's papercraft board. I visit there by the name 'Charles Bradbury', so you might've seen some models by me, like Starman from the Mother series.

Enough of intro, though; this thread is intended for DKC-related papercraft. I have a new one under the works, a Kreeping Klasp. Behold the image below and be sure to comment/request/discuss (not necessarily this papercraft, any crafts in general work fine, just as long as they don't interfere with the forum rules [which goes for both, porn crafts and non-DKC-crafts]).

Almost forgot to post the work in progress;

That picture is made of paper?! It's very realistic! It seems with that same design you could make any kind of barrel.

Porn crafts? Who would do that!

Argh, I forgot to mention how the process of making the papercraft happens..!
I use a 3D modeling program called Cinema 4D to create the model in the first place. After that I run the model through a special program that converts it to a printable template. People take advantage of this by ripping N64/PSX models and optimizing them so they can have real-life Videogame models :D

That image is only for reference. It's still in Cinema 4D, as I have to texture the bottom and the top and add the hands. Thanks for the comment, though. Hope I didn't confuse you there :/

And about porn crafts; I have a template for one but haven't assembled it yet. The structure is pretty amazing, and the art of folding it is actually more interesting than the sexual appeal.

Oh, I thought that thing was real. It looked like it was computerized, but after I read your post....

By the way, as much as I am intrigued by the concept of "porncrafts" I think that this is where we end that particular discussion.

Neat stuff, Sam. I've always liked origami and other such things... this is a bit different in a very cool way.

Keep us updated with your Klasp project. :)

By the way: That Thwomp is cool, and Howl's Castle is insane!

Paper is cool and all but why not go one step farther and...

The answer? Because paper is cheap!

If I EVER do DKC 3D modeling that would be sweet to get them printed wouldn't it? :ugeek: But paper is still cool. Someone up for the challenge of Diddy+Donkey in the tag teaming pose? :D

Har har, sounds like a challenge ;)
The bottom and top are done now, I'm going for the hands after I get home.
So far I've got only the basic structure. I'll texture it later today or tomorrow (hopefully).

That's awesome. Makes me wish I had a better K. Rool 64 rip.

That is awesome.

It looks like a papercraft already... If this was the K. Rool resources thread I'd ask you if that was the real character model used in DK64... I mean I'm pretty sure it is, but surely you would have mentioned this wondrous possession of yours amidst some fanfare and jovial storytelling of your acquisition exploits. Surely!

Of course this isn't the K. Rool resources thread, so I'll just mind my own business. ;)

Okay, I think I'm done..! The arms are ready to go, only the unfolding remains. :>

The hands might look a bit wonky, but once they're folded it should look alright.

I already made a test template, hands not included (yet).
I'd try it myself, but I don't have any ink on my printer :\

Sam, that's terrific. I can't wait to see how it looks when complete.

Stone... what kind of clues are you talking about? :P

Clues? Damn, this online dictionary fools me, I think.

Try to imagine what I wanted to say and post it here

Maybe the right word to use was "thread". But I'm only used to this word in forums, hehe.
I also searched for clasp in there, I especially like the bra clasp
