I didn't notice it was you until I checked out this thread again. How've you been, DKCplayer?

Simion saves again with another fixed download! Guess I found my new "System Sounds Scheme".

Thanks for the quick fix, Simion. I'll adjust the server settings to allow the 7z archive format when I next get a chance. I'd like to support and recommend 7z, as it's superior to ZIP and RAR in a few ways... I appreciate you bringing this required adjustment to my attention.

A big thanks to DKCplayer for the ground work here, too. ;)

I'll check the archive out myself tomorrow, but until I get the chance - is there much need for quality control, or is it a pretty decent collection?

Some sound effects are missing, like the DKC1 Enemy Bounce and the beta TNT sound. Might be best to include those in the catalog. That way I can set up my own bytes list.

Good point. I guess it's for compression reasons (smaller download/storage size, etc.), but I've got to say I'd prefer having the original, uncompressed (WAV?) files — even if they are much bigger, and the quality difference is negligible/imperceptible... I vote we organise a complete set in both formats. :)

DKCPlayer never uploaded a WAVs or lossless-format zip. Thus the MP3s.

How about FLACs instead of big bulky WAV files?

And I wouldn't have uploaded anything if it was much over 5MB here (without Qyz's permission).

My DKC1 sound effects recording takes about 10MB for the WAVs (no, they aren't perfect and are not edited for gap removal yet).

:target: DKCLB sound effects MUST be of the absolute 100% best possible record quality, and will have to meet more stringent requirements than just being lossless.

I hate WAV files, they are too huge, they made my DKC Kremling Invasion Confirmed game laggy and slow, and it made the project and EXE too big.

My suggestion of WAVs was more toward DKCplayer (or anyone who is doing a comprehensive rip) than to you, Simion. I know you just posted what was already available. FLAC is a good idea.

Speaking of available - the 7z archive format should now be available on the Atlas as a supported file type. I'll check this myself later, and will add support for 7z attachments here on the forum, too. :)

This collection could be handy: DKC Series AlmostAllSFX (mp3s) by DKCPlayer ← link fixed! (October 2013)

I've added this download link and plenty of details about it to the first post of this topic - which is now a merger of three SFX-related topics, just to keep things together.

Don't worry about it, edevore; it's always worth pointing out broken links, so thanks for letting me know. Of course, with old topics like this, a PM might be the best approach, as I'm sure you realised after posting.

Anyhow, I've fixed the links; Simion had fixed the link in the original post, but there were a couple of outdated links throughout the rest of the topic that I've now fixed — enjoy! :D

DKC Sound Ripping

I have returned once again! :D

Anyways, I was playing with DKC3 music ripping, and as it turns out, the sound effects in the game ripped through SPC just like the music, that's right, the sound effects are SPCs, in order to do perfect sound ripping, you will have to disable the music in the game.

Just wanted to share this information.

I'm pretty sure all SFX in all SNES games are SPCs.

Well, at least from what the SPC rips of Super Mario World, Earthworm Jim, Super Mario All-Stars, and the SNES Test Program have taught me.

Anywho, it kinda sucks that :bleak: 's SFX weren't ripped yet...

Actually, they are still typical waveforms.

An SPC is a snapshot of the sound processing core's memory, NOT an actual waveform music/sound file. It is an "emulated playback" format. Therefore, SPC is not the "purest" format we could have them in, even though the sound emulation would most likely be accurate.

Furthermore, .WAV is usually best suited to fan-games (for DELTA though, I am considering adding FLAC SFX support to reduce file size).

A notable exception is Wario's Woods for SNES. It didn't use SPC at all, but some weirdass workaround. To my knowledge you can't listen to emulated Wario's Woods music, as the SPCs you record will be empty.

That's such a shame, Wario's Woods has some good music.

Although one individual, who's name I forget, was able to rip all it's music, with recorded gameplay, but without SFX.

With a little fooling around, one could use those to make BRSTMs of them, and it'd be pretty much the same thing (if what you use SPCs for is to listen to music on infinite loop.)

(4.17 KiB) Downloaded 1774 times

Just bring the pitch way down. In the ROM, sound effects are scaled up to save space

Fun fact: Many sound effects were reused in different pitch. For example, Donkey's hit sound is the same as Mini Necky's nut-shooting sound. And Kritter's death sound is the same as Krusha's death sound

Hey, everyone. Hope I'm not accidentally breaking a rule, but since I didn't see anything against necroing a pinned thread, I hope I'm in the clear.

I'm in the middle of a Let's Play of Donkey Kong Country 3, and I've been wanting to use various sound effects from the game for various stuff (like pairing one with an in-video caption to react to something after the fact). Needless to say, when I first stumbled across this thread, it was a godsend.

Problem is...something is keeping the sounds from showing up right in the videos themselves. I import them into my editing program, and then even play fine in the program itself. But when I render the video? They're nowhere to be found!

I have no idea why it's happening, as sound file bugs like this aren't my area of expertise. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I hope you're going to include the "level select" sound from DKC3... it's so quiet you might think it's part of the music, but it's actually a sound effect. Just a heads up.
Also, I can't find the sound effect for touching the scroll in the first level of DKC2.

I'm interested. I'm also kinda curious what the project is. I also have a project to restore the soundtrack by tracking down the original sounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5rAjOj ... RcS2cCBBsP
