Donkey Business (awesome DKC mashup album)

Guys, if you are at all interested in hearing some excellent DKC track/rap mashups, check this out!

Image

After just listening the first two tracks, I knew this was top-quality stuff. I've now listened to it all the way through twice and I'm totally loving it. Some very familiar music blended in awesome style with some of hip-hop's most popular and talented voices. After having listened to half of the tracks, I burnt it onto CD and resumed playback on my stereo. It was too good not to do that. This album is truly a fine piece of musical ear candy.

Not to be missed.

Even if you aren't an enormous hip-hop fan... At least you will LOVE the instrumentals. ;)

Album Info / Tracklist:
Spoiler!
Artist: Norwegian Recycling
Album Title: Donkey Business
Year: 2008
Albumcover: Made by Pinkoloss (pinkoloss.blogspot.com)

Info:
This is my tribute to the Donkey Kong Country series on the SNES, but mainly to the man behind the great soundtrack, David Wise. He is one of my favorite musicproducers and have been a huge inspiration to me. All the tracks on the album are based on a sample from the soundtrack. Then I have mashed these samples to either hip hop or RnB acapellas. On top of this i have added alot of my own production like drumloops, basslines, effects, samples and synths. I also have to thank "Pinkoloss", an amazingly talented friend of mine, for making the fabulous cover art. I recommend you to visit his blog (adress is above).

I am slightly disturbed by Dixie's huge... uh, lips.

Man, this is so neat. And I don't even like rap!

I'm not a hip-hop lover either. Still, the man's got style.

I'm seriously digging the opener, Wild Wild Jungle. Other highlights for me are Raymond Wise, Runaway Dixie and The Way Blast Barrels Are. Every single track is well done, the only one I personally don't enjoy all that much is Without The Brothers Bear. Shame, that's the only track representing DKC3 tunage.

As good as Donkey Business is, I reckon some Gorillaz vocals would have been even more suited to a DKC mashup project. And no, not just because DK's a gorilla. I might try to put Clint Eastwood to a DKC track which didn't feature in this album and see how it goes. I wonder what track would be best suited. Hmmm...

Just finished downloading.... and although I'm not into rap or hip hop too much... Wild Wild Jungle is really funky. :P

And yeah, I agree, some vocals from the Gorillaz wouldn't hurt. :)

EDIT: The only other tracks I really liked were The way blast barrels are, Runaway Dixie... and perhaps I wish I had life Balloons and Irreplaceable Ending. But I guess it's really hard to find voice samples which go with a pre-written, stand-alone track. :/

I'm not really into rap, but this is an exception. It's really funky. 8-) I want to put these on my I-Pod.

Oh yeah... Wild Wild Jungle is my new *everything* anthem. Just hit midday? Must be Wild Wild Jungle time.

First track I've wanted to have on repeat for years... but then I want to hear the next tracks, too. I'll just put the album on repeat. 8-)

I'm diggin' this album. It's the only thing I've been listening to for the past four hours or so :)

Animals Goes By (is that an intentional grammar error?) and The Way Blast Barrels Are are my two favorites.

I'm totally into The Way Blast Barrels Are. I can't believe how good it sounds with with Stickerbush Symphony.

Lyric-wise, Runaway Dixie touches me the most inside, though I've grown fond of The Way Blast Barrels Are.

Well, after six months of thoroughly enjoyable listening, I can happily report that Donkey Business is still in my top five most played albums. I've decided that I enjoy most of these mashed-up tracks a lot more than the hip-hop/pop/R'n'B originals - and to be honest, for the most part I feel as though (from a casual listening perspective) the result is even an improvement on the DKC tracks themselves... Well, when I'm in the mood for lyrics, anyway.

I tend to skip the 2nd and 3rd tracks (Quality Bananas and Without The Brothers Bear), but apart from those two (and perhaps Raymond Wise, which I've started to get tired of), the entire album is still an absolute joy to behold.

Spoiler!
I think I'll feature this on the Atlas once I've got the streaming audio player up and running. :)

Oh dear, I think I've let the cat out of the bag again!

What? Now there's a cat involved? :|

Anyway, I had a crack of mashing up a song with a DKC song. Forest Frenzy goes well with Mr Bombastic by Shaggy. I call it Mr Kongbastic! :D I can't put a MP3 on a sharing website due to legal purposes.

I'm so glad this topic got revived, I absolutely loved this album, its very very well done and I don't even like hip hop. I didn't think lyrics would mix so perfectly with Donkey Kong tracks but this guy nailed it.

I slowly stopped listening to this album around a month ago, but it's not because I stopped liking it... it's that I've listened to it so much that it was time to hear music I've deprived myself of in place. :D I could say that Donkey Business actually defined some of the earlier months of this year for me (March, April, and May, specifically). When things were rough in my life, Donkey Business really helped shape me into becoming a much greater person. It sounds a bit odd that I have so much emotional attachment to a Donkey Kong mashup album, but hey, it's amazing ;)

Haha these are very well done. They're not the greatest pieces of music out there, but they're a great novelty and most of them are at least good for a laugh. Without the Brothers Bear particularly gave me a good chuckle.
