Whoa, these are awesome!
It would be epic if you made DKC styled sprites of these characters!

Phyreburnz there is no update, I got a lot going on now and my free time is basically cut in half, I will continue to make progress as soon as possible, good luck with Winky.

Geno, thanks! Making sprites out of these models has been my goal all along.

Can you send me then the model of Ram Bunkshus? I still want to use him in Donkey Kong Land Returns. I have just been waiting for you to finish. Let me know ok? Thanks

I'm impressed! I use Sculptris myself, which is kind of like Zbrush, correct? Though I can never find out how to lock certain parts of a model to paint, so that the paint doesn't go on the other parts. Oh well. xD

Especially like how Ram Bunkshus looks, it looks like he was actually in the game with those textures!

Cosmicman, I'm wondering how you paint these and I was also wondering if you knew if you could add a fur texture that's more like Dixie's on the figures. I don't know that much about 3D programs, in general. I kinda stopped with Winky, at least for now. But I'm working on making my own Kong, just for fun. I also don't know much about making clothes... should I make the figure and then add them, or add them with the figure?

Any advice you have would be much appreciated!

And keep us updated on your figures! I love watching the progress! :D

Hi Cosmicman, Your modeling work is very good, congratulations!
We have an ongoing project for a remake of DKC (topic: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=1336 ) and am working on the World Map. My idea is to create a mountain with the heads of the four monkeys that will be in our game: Donkey Kong, Dixie, Diddy and Kiddy.

Well, I got models of Donkey Kong, Dixie, Diddy and Kiddy. But I can not find model Kiddy. You would be able to model his head? I just need the same head. Here a Map base:

Thanks in advance :)

Yeah Jeffrey I can send you the Ram model.

Ribbedebie I still haven't figured out that myself, I can color it but if you zoom in you can see small patches of paint from other parts. The best you can do is hide the part you don't want to paint if they are separate models, or zoom in as much as you can.

Phyreburnz I haven't tried to make realistic fur but the best way to do it I think would be to zoom in and pull each hair one by one or just make one hair and copy and paste is all over the model. For clothes I suggest a complete separate object, that way when you get to paint it would be a lot easier.

Leo core, that looks incredible, I've been following your thread and it would be awesome to be part of DKC4 somehow, here is some work on Kiddy's head, still missing his nose, ears and other details.

Thanks Thornberry!

Leo_Core, I think the model can only be exported as a zbrush file or Obj file, I wont have any texture on it. Here is where it is so far, I still need to do some minor details and resize some parts.

I also noticed Ram was missing its tail, I don't think it can be seen in any beta pictures, so I added one, what do you think?

Awesome!

I was wondering if you, yourself, had a program to animate the models, or if you were just making them for other people to use. I also wondered if you can actually make them look like the sprites in the game.

I think one of the most helpful Kongs you could make would be Kiddy, since he has so few animations and lacks many abilities that are in other games and my attempts at sprite editing have been... bad... because he does have so few animations. I don't have the ability to animate or anything (too frustrating... and I don't have a program with which to do it), but it would probably be helpful for future fan game, if you have the time, of course.

I have to say, too, that I'm amazed with your patience! I've attempted to make several models, and it's so frustrating :x I would much prefer to sculpt them with clay, rather than use a computer program! I'll stick to Photoshop!

How are your other models coming along, anyway? Have you been able to finish any, or do you keep making more than you can handle! :P

Phyreburnz I'm making these models for the community to use, right now I feel most of my models are complete but not 100%, as soon as they are done I will release them, should be really, really soon.

I will have a full Kiddy model too, right now hes at about 60%.

Tonberry2000 Thanks!

Simion and Leo I really want to see what you guys can do with the models, I will notify you soon.

Your models are impressive, it's as if you took the models from the Rareware database itself!

I'm a little scared that your Mr. X model is going to put my sprite out of business!

Not trying to put any sprites out of business, I just hope we all manage to take these models and squeeze as much out of it as possible, hopefully making sprites easier to create.

Hogwash is basically done, with very minor details needed to be done, I never played DKL so I tried my best using the only 2 pictures available of it and a youtube video.

Not bad, Cosmicman. The side aerial view looks like Hogwash means business.

Once the model is finalized, how will be the program be able to handle his movements and expressions?

VideoViking I have been researching numerous 3d programs and found one that can automatically put an skeleton inside a human model and have the model do any movement which might help in your case but for these animal models is different, even Mr.X is half of something so I can't use that program with him, I'm still looking for something to make my life easier when it comes to animation, most programs that do that are so complex that I just give up on them.

I know you can use 3DS Max to put a skeleton in something. I used that program in high school and we used it to make skeletons walk and our own characters we made out of clay. I don't own the program and I don't know all that much about it. It was pretty complex and probably something you need higher level classes for. I also remember making our own bones and we made slugs (this is something you could use for something without legs and is probably available in other animation software). All of the things you put bones in, you have to select the areas you want to be effected by which bone and essentially make the skeleton bigger than your model so everything is being moved.

What about Poser? I don't think it's a free program, but you might want to check that out. I think you can make animations with it, but I'm not sure. I used that in high school, but mostly for just posing figures, making a printout, and drawing/painting said pose.

You might also want to check out Daz studio. They offer a bunch of really cool free programs (I think some may be trials, *maybe*) and they have an animation one. You should check out the other programs Daz offers, like Bryce, which is a landscape making program that's really easy to use and very good looking.

I think Daz is your best bet. I'm pretty sure most of the programs are free, and you can use them for animations.
