That was probably accident.

I'm on to it... I'll let you know what this is all about in 20 mins. :)

Edit: Here's a super-rough (but accurate, despite appearances) map/layout of the bonus room in question. As you can see, only the upper half of the area is used (or visible) during normal play, and below is another layout; presumably a 'beta design' of sorts.

Click on the image below to view it in its entirety

The out-of-place graphics at the very bottom (lowest 8 pixels) are a result of me hurrying this layout, and don't belong there.

In addition to the place stood upon in the glitch video it looks as though there's another standable 'platform' near the far right.

...yep.

That old glitch! I discovered a similar one in Oil Drum Alley a few years ago:

I don't think it's an accident. Either that, or Rare simply copied the bonus from Ice Age Alley, changed the texture, and pasted it as an Oil Drum Alley bonus!

Looks to me like every bonus game for an archetype is stored together, and the collision isn't even if you don't see it.

The design does look to be copied... the off-screen platform exists on the other side, here, too...

You said a while ago that all levels of an archetype are stored together, I wonder what is stored with what exactly? It seems like each archetype has a levels map and a bonus room map. Where do the animal buddy stages go? Bosses? Gangplank Galleon?

Kong-Fu: My first post included all of that, just in a more clear and complete format... :P

cfh: I think it may only be the underwater levels which are stored as one layout... I'm not sure, though.

Oh, but it didn't include the 12 or so layers of snow, you see! Makes all the difference. :P ;)

Mine are actual screenshots exactly how they look in the game. :P

You didn't really need to attach the same screen again... :|

I think Qyz's map is enough to see what's going on anyway.

Okay, but while I'm at it, Cody didn't get all of Oil Drum Alley, so here's the rest. ;)

Yeah, if want to see how it looks in the game, we can go see it ourselves ;)

Edit: Could you put those shots together like Qyz did? Thanks!

Wow, I really like those pictures and of course these discoveries!

As for a technical reason, I think they did that to save space. The lower-right area just isn't used in snow levels... I assume it's the exact same data, except it displays using whatever level type you were in. So if you were in the middle of a factory level, all of the bonuses become factory-themed as well.

is it possible to tell the game to lead you to this bonus-layout at any bonusroom entrypoint by gamesharking?

Most likely possible. You could also do an ASM hack. (ASM = 65c816 Assembly, the scripting code the SNES uses) Although, I don't know how that could be accomplished, at least not yet.

That may be true to some extent, but there are bonus areas which are of a different archetype to their containing level. The very first one, for example. Maybe it's automatic for most bonuses, but perhaps these bonus areas of non-matching terrain have their graphic style assigned explicitly?

I could look at them and check...

Possibly. I'll likely find out soon enough.

Yeah, I figured this was part of your area of expertise.

When you know the answer, I'm keen to let you explain it to me. :D

They're all the same. I haven't checked all of them, but I checked 2 similar ones.

I'll never forget this: A long time ago in DKC GBA, I entered a bonus in either Tanked-Up Trouble or Trick Track Trek (I can't recall), which lead me to one of the snow world bonuses. I've tried to replicate it with no luck, on both an emulator and on the actual GBA (the original, unintentional experimentation of the glitch was found on the real GBA).

Does anyone know why or how that's possible?

As soon as I saw the name of this thread, I knew what it was talking about! I've done that many times, and I wondered why it was there! Now I know! I would hit it accidentally when doing speed runs; I'd just run off cliffs in bonus rooms.

I'll bet that those rooms are used for other types of bonus rooms in the area. Ex: small room used for spelling out words and hitting barrels. of course that's just what it looks like so i don't know

This is so cool, wonder if the revisions or Game Boy ports include this glitch too.
