Viacom just rejected an Avatar video I tried to upload on Youtube. I spent a whole freakin' week on it and now barely anyone's going to see it, but I'm really upset by the fact that it could happen to one of my friends too. I'm so sad...

If you are interested in seeing "Avatar Randumbness: Life's a Beach" (hey, I think it's funny!) feel free to PM me.

"In the half empty department, Google is being forced to turn over YouTube user histories to Viacom."

I never had any intention on uploading any Viacom material. Nonetheless I've already written something really nice in my profile knowing that maybe Viacom wil read them.

I'd say that more or less, 90% of all the videos on You Tube are copyrighted in some way.

That's another thing I hate about You Tube and law in general; most of any content that is actually interesting has SOME copyrighted stuff in it.

I say that if Viacom wanted said infringing videos removed, just have Google/You Tube delete them. It's that simple. No need to have 50,000 lawsuits over stuff that people will upload anyway. Even if they had the videos removed, other people would continue to upload the same content. Why? I'd wager that most people just don't care.

However, I think that You Tube should have issued some sort of warning first, so that Tiptup and several others didn't spend time on a video only to get it rejected without notice. :x

Sorry for ranting...

...Okay, that was pretty random. But I'm still mad.

Very few (if any) people make money off of copyrighted stuff they may or may not upload on Youtube. And it's like Simion said: Over 90% of all Youtube material is copyrighted in some way. How can they justify blocking all those videos? Why would they even bother?

Another thing that makes me mad is the faultiness of the Video ID system. When I upload my first Avatar video it gets rejected, but there are people with hundreds of similar videos out there and nothing's ever going to happen to them. It's just a matter of who the system picks out first, and I happen to be one of those unfortunate individuals.

Viacom and the American government are the two most evil organizations in the world... and I wish I could say I was joking. :(

I saw a video almost the same, except it didn't have the sound effects, it had just music, and it repeated 100 times, it was called "Watch this 100 times, and still laugh!".

Uh-oh... Kong Fu, you could be in danger of having your account permanently disabled without notice. You still have 5 spongebob censored videos; I'd advise to get rid of them before You Tube does. In fact, I don't know if even that will protect you from them. :?

Yes, but almost no one, if any, would see it because your post wouldn't appear in the new posts. Double posting isn't a big deal, anyway.

Double posting is a big deal, in certain situations. But you are right, if he hadn't made a new post his post wouldn't appear as new. Since it was a few days between his posts I let it off the hook.

For those of you that think YouTube video quality sucks, here's a way to semi-permanently enable videos to be played in a very high quality MP4 format with AAC audio. It's even better than the "watch in high quality" link, and will work on any video even if the video doesn't have a high-quality link.

I'm using this trick now, as my connection has become significantly faster for some reason. Oh, and it only works in Firefox. ;)

1. First, get the Redirector addon from addons.mozzila.org (CLICK HERE)
2. Use the addon to set a redirection with the following settings:
Include Pattern: http://www.youtube.com/watch\?v=([A-Z0-9._%+-]+)
Exclude Pattern: http://www.youtube.com/watch\?v=([A-Z0-9._%+-]+)&fmt=18
Redirect To: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=$1&fmt=18
Pattern Type: Regular Expression
3. Browse to any YouTube video. Redirector will now automatically add the string "&fmt=18" to the end of any video URL, causing YouTube to play a very high quality version of each video you attempt to view. Please note that in some cases this may have adverse effects on the audio quality, though.

Yeah, I've tried the &fmt=18 trick before, but the quality got worse in videos with no Watch in High Quality button, so I stopped using it =P
Thanks for the add-on though.

It's probably because YouTube hasn't re-encoded those videos for this "&fmt=18" thing.

It tends to work wonders on videos that are nothing but music. In some cases it won't do anything.

EDIT: To recommend some videos, just look at some of my more recent favorites. http://www.youtube.com/profile_favorites?user=Zimion32

Wow. You know, when I reuploaded my video, I actually changed some content in it (like putting CD-i cutscenes over stupid parts, Mama Luigi, etc.) But since then I've uploaded a bunch of Avatar videos and none of them got blocked.

My Spongebob Frankendoodle video got blocked about a month ago, but I was able to reupload it without it getting rejected.

I tried reuploading the lost mattress episode to Google and it got rejected there, too! I uploaded it to myspace, and so far, it hasn't gotten rejected.
