*gets bigger, and therfore better avvy*
Anyway, I agree with Qyz about avatars; they're great for recognising another member at a glance (Ironically, I hate Qyz's new avvy for that reason). At Rayman Pirate Community*, another forum I visit, you have to have an avatar that is given to you automatically depending on your ting** count. In the low ranks, you rank up often, so you can't really recognise people this way, especially when multiple people have that rank. I prefer it when people have the higher ranks, because I can recognise them immediately; the supermod Xenon has Reflux 2, our 3rd top poster Beebop has Rayman 3 and the Admin has his own special Bad Rayman*** rank. So yeah, individual avatars is great.
*I'm so cool, I'm a member of TWO separate video game related forums. :geek: ****
**You get tings for posting, and you can donate tings to others. Mods can also remove/add tings.
***Everyone else but him calls it Dark Rayman.
****First time I've ever used that emoticon or seen it used. :o

I'm thinking about making a new siggy, but I'm going to need a couple images:

Donkey Kong walking forward
Diddy Kong walking forward
Dixie Kong walking forward
Kiddy Kong walking forward

All of them should be facing to the right.

EDIT: Never mind, I found some websites that have them.

EDIT 2: I'm all done! Image

I got the sprites from The Shy Guy Kingdom, and a friend of mine helped me make it transparent and upload it, the rest I did on my own. (With my computer of course.)

EDIT 3: I had this post in another thread, but it was the wrong one  , so I deleted it and posted it here instead.

I'd recommend Spriters Resource for sprites. ;) There are loads of DK sprites there.

I might check that site soon.

Anyways, here's my new siggy! Image

EDIT AFTER BUMPING: Oh no! My avatar's broken! Cody, help me!

There appears to be server issues in http://img172.imageshack.us/ (where the Blizzard's image was saved).
Normally, those are restored in a few hours ;) But if you're not sure, you can ask Cody if he still has the image in his HDD.

Well, I PM'd Cody right after I edited my last post. Hopefully he will find out soon.

EDIT: It was restored, then it went back to broken.

I also updated my siggy, you can view it on my profile. I feel like it takes up too much space, and I should probably make it smaller somehow. I'll think about it the next time I update.

EDIT: Ugh... nevermind. I have to upload it another way, which I can't do right now, sorry  .

By the way, why can't we have sigs displayed on the forums?

I'm pretty sure that question is answered somewhere in this topic, but to reiterate:
They make everything cluttered and harder to read, and just provoke an all around unproffesional feeling. Perhaps we might change our minds down the road, but right now we just don't like Sigs.

Qyzbud disabled them because he wanted to write up some guidelines for them first.

Yeah. And if you're really that curious, just click on their name. It's already there.

...Is it just me, or do I have the most non-DKC related Signature on these forums?

Okay, after 30 long minutes, I've finished my new signature:

Actually, it's saved as a PNG, but it looks blurry because it's zoomed out. Just click on the link for high-quality. I still don't understand why it looks like that when it's zoomed out.

Wow, that's a really cool avvy! I really like how Kiddy is holding the Y from the name.

Thanks! At first I was thinking, "How am I going to put Kiddy up there?", I thought that the only sprite where he looks at you lively is that sprite, there was the other sprite where you complete a bonus stage with him, but I forgot about that. He can't really fit on there anyway.

The main problem was size, at first the name had a very huge space between gamer and boy, so it was too wide, and had to start all over again :( , but it all payed off :D .

To me, the file size limit was the hardest thing for me to deal with, so I had to crop my avatar. Another thing was placing my name in it, because it would block too much of the photo. It's pretty hard to do a good avatar when the size is too small... :(

Yeah, at the start I was thinking that this will most likely be too big for an avatar, but I eventually got it small enough! And after making it small, it still looks great!

Wouldn't there be an option to turn them off though? You could probably even set them off as the default.

Also, I made this :D (I'll probably redo it eventually though):

So heyyy...

I'm trying to make a new avatar, but I'm having trouble trimming it down to 16 Kb. Right now it's at 18.1, and I've got it as small as I'd like it. Does anyone know how I could compress that just a bit?

PNGGauntlet? (Assuming you're using PNG)

Or, you could use Paint.NET and save in 8-bit color mode.

Speaking of avatars, if anyone can locate a screenshot of the lost world from DKC2 as depicted in my current avatar, only with the kremling head's mouth open. I'm trying to replicate my old avatar and can't seem to find a picture with the mouth open.

EDIT: By the way, I've created a few DKCR avatars if anybody wants to use them.

Thank you, Simion! I tried that program, and it worked. Still though, that 16 Kb size limit seems just... unreasonable. :(

EDIT: Made that before Joe Minga beat me to the punch with all of his DKCR avatars. :P

DOUBLE EDIT: Jomingo, any way you could put those in the Avatar gallery?

Is that what you were looking for Scraps? I don't really have that much to go off of, I'll certainly make some better avatars once we get more footage of the game.

@Tiptup: I have no control over the gallery, only Qyzbud can change that I think. I can alert him to the possibility of adding them, but I don't know how often he checks his PMs.

Shrugs, I suppose we can wait for more images to come up.

Though there's this guy Image

except I dont know where a picture of this is where this tiki isn't getting nailed by DK (though I'm getting really fond of my current avi so maybe don't worry about it heh)

Ahem... so, as you can see, I've made a custom "TV bars" version of the Octopus avi (thanks to Qyz's very helpful tutorial), and I'm pretty happy with it. I actually did something right. :D

And for some reason I was just reading through the early posts in this thread, and I have to say: I'm sorry that I was so annoying as a child. I didn't know better. But I've matured significantly.

Yeah, Tiptup's new avvy looks sweet.

I've temporarily swapped my avatar's background to that of Crucible Castle, for various metaphorical and aesthetic reasons. I may leave it like that until around the time DKCR is released.

Also, not to be confused with Retro's latest DK game, I have designed an avatar to reflect Scraps69's "DKC Reloaded" project that is currently ongoing:

In light of my recent return and resolve to resume regular posting, I've decided I should probably choose an avatar. While there's nothing wrong with those which are currently available, my long absence has made it a little difficult to know which of them are currently in use. I would make my own, as the guides that have been posted seem simple enough even for the technologically backwards individual I happen to be, but I lack regular pc access. Basically, I'm requesting someone with the requisite knowledge and equipment to make me one. I'd like it to be done in the television screen style of the official avatars, and my preferred characters would be either Manky Kong or Klap Trap. In return I'll toss you a banana for your hoard and my eternal gratitude.
