I'm not sure whether this has only happened to me or not, but the demo seems glitched to me in the GBC version of DKL3. To see this for yourself, let the game sit on the title screen and don't press anything (don't even press anything on the Control Pad, because sometimes it loads a different level ...
Out of all the games that I own, only one of them is a Japanese game. The game happens to be Super Mario Bros. 2; in the U.S., this is known as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. I have the Famicom Mini version of it, for GBA (the Japanese equivalent to the Classic NES Series). It's my favorite Mar...
Well, it's not really new anymore, but I think you all know what I mean... Anyway, this is something that I never see people talk about. I like the old Rareware logo better. It was on a nice, shiny plate, and had a blue background. The shine represented the 3D effects in their games (like DKC). And ...
Hey, I just found something out! VBA-M now emulates Slipslide Ride in the GBC version of DKC properly! Before, the graphics would randomly garble, but it works properly now! That drove me crazy before. (Although, the glitch wasn't limited to VisualBoyAdvance... I saw it once on another emulator, Jav...
That sounds cool (the translation part). I'd like to see a Latin American Neutral Spanish translation of the game. This topic actually gave me an idea to do a Spanish translation of the SNES version of DKC3. Since there's not much text in this game, it won't be as hard as some other games that I've...
Here's a glitch I found. When getting a Bonus Coin, if you hit B the moment you collect the coin (and when you're on the ground), whoever you're controlling will jump when he/she starts walking to the right. This is weird, because the jump doesn't occur until seconds after you press B. And if there'...
Here are a few things I noticed about DKC2. Please note that I've only played American 1.0 and 1.1. - In American 1.0, if you press A to do a tag team, start to jump, throw up while you're in the middle of ascending, and you "catch" the Kong you threw, you will immediately descend afterwar...
Yeah, GBA does use palettes. How else can it display colors? And now that you two point it out, it IS a little bright... I'll darken it a bit when I get the chance to. It'll take me a while to do, though, since I'm not as used to GBA as I'm used to GBC (it uses more colors, making it more time-consu...
This probably sounds REALLY stupid, but I think it was loosely based off of Jetpac. In Jetpac, you can fly up, shoot horizontally, or even hover in midair. Diddy's move has these three same features. It's not EXACTLY the same thing, though, as Diddy shoots out peanuts, where the guy in Jetpac shoots...
I don't like the fact that there is no COLOR code in DKC3 GBA, so for my first color-based GBA hack ever, I went ahead and hacked Kiddy's clothes myself! I changed them to green, like the COLOR code in DKC3 SNES. I didn't do anything else with this hack, though I did make the flag green when Kiddy t...
Donkey Kong Land 3 seems to be the least buggy DK game made by Rareware, but I accidentally found a bug with Lurchin just now. In Ugly Ducting, it is possible to defeat a Lurchin by jumping on top of it. Yeah, you read that right. You're probably wondering, "How can you jump on a Lurchin when i...
Well... I have my new patch up! I haven't worked on this in a while because nobody seemed interested in this, so I spent my time hacking some other games for a while... anyway, I made a few changes to this patch. - I tweaked the gray sprites AGAIN (to make them less shiny) - I made Sheepy Shop looks...
I found some weird glitch a couple of years ago with Squitter and bonus stages. Normally, when you get a Kremkoin, the character moves right automatically and you can't control him/her. Well, if you're Squitter and you happen to be standing on a web platform, you can still move even after you get th...
Ha ha... when I first started using a hex editor, that would throw me off a lot at first, but now I'm used to it. I think every other Nintendo system is little endian as well (I know for a fact that all Game Boy variants are little endian). Also, here are some other things that are little endian: po...
Wow... impressive. That's a lot of info right there! There's just one thing you missed, though: In TUFST, there is a DK Barrel at the beginning of Blazing Bazukas. To find it, you have to go in a Blast Barrel right by the first Bazuka, which will launch you to a horizontal rope. Then go left, there'...
Funny how this topic turned from being about DKL2 and DKL3 to how to create animated GIFs... Anyway, you all have the right idea. I do create AVIs (for these, I use Microsoft Video 1 as the codec and set the quality to 100, because they're so short the filesize isn't too big of a deal), then I use V...
Since I made one of these topics for DKL, I figured I may as well do one for DKL2 and DKL3. Since these two games have very similar physics, I decided to merge them into one topic. - When cartwheeling/rolling/tail spinning, you will always pause for a moment at the end of a roll, even if you hit an ...
Do I need some program specifically to play GBS files? I heard somewhere I do...
Also, I find it interesting that that site has music for both the GB version and the GBC version, even though the music is exactly the same in both versions. Weird...
A lot of people have probably heard of VisualBoyAdvance, a Game Boy/Super Game Boy/Game Boy Color/Game Boy Advance emulator. It's one of the most popular emulators for the Game Boy series, but it also has a lot of bugs. There are also many versions that improve on it in different ways, which are all...
You know, maybe I should record better versions (by better, I mean with higher quality so it sounds more like it does in the game). When I made these files, I was new to converting WAV files to MP3 files, so I didn't know at the time how to increase the bitrate. As a result, the songs lost some qual...
Has anybody heard of this game? I've heard it for a while, but I never knew anything about it. Recently, though, the Angry Video Game Nerd reviewed it , and made the game sound bad. So I wanted to try the game for myself and see how bad it really was. Well, I tried it, and I actually ended up liking...
Yeah, you're right actually. Even though there's a glitch like that in every DKC and DKL game, DKL and DKL2 have this glitch worse than the other games. It's really annoying, as I have had lots of unfair deaths because of that. By the way, I forgot a few things: - In caves, you can keep jumping your...
After playing quite a bit of Donkey Kong Land lately, I feel the need to nitpick at the physics in Donkey Kong Land, because it's much different from the DKC games, and even the other two DKL games. Ever since I first started playing DKL (many years ago), I noticed the physics are odd in this game. ...
I was testing out some games on an emulator called bgb, which isn't what I normally use (I normally use VisualBoyAdvance). Whenever I try playing any hacked games on it (even simple hacks where only the color palette is changed), it warns me about a bad checksum, though it runs the game completely f...
It doesn't help that their hit detection is so bad -- in the SNES version, I can never seem to hit any with an egg (it completely phases it), which means I can NEVER get through that place without taking a hit. I still say that's either a glitch in YOUR cartridge or you're bad at aiming. :P It's no...
Here's the wiki: http://www.datacrystal.org/wiki/Main_Page" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It obviously has many games other than the DKC games (and in fact, doesn't have much at all on any of the DKC games), but that doesn't stop any of you hackers from adding more stuff there. :P So...
I've had this one about a year ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slj2vq1zXAw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; So my best time is 0:56:75. Not the best, but it's only about two to three seconds away from the best. I made a few little mistakes (for example, when I jumped out of the wat...
I think Platform Perils is the single hardest level in the entire DK series. It has these tiny platforms that go fast enough to give you little time to react, and it's the only level in the game with Gray Krushas -- the kind that not even Donkey can jump on. So you have to kill them with barrels, bu...
Here's an article about it: http://www.dkvine.com/?p=528" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; What are your thoughts? Personally, I don't really like the thought of this, because I liked the music from the N64 Rareware games. I wonder who will take his position? And I hope the music in the...
Here's a glitch that I accidentally found a while ago. It works in Tracker Barrel Trek and may work on other levels (I haven't tried). At the beginning of the level, run up right to where the waterfall starts (at the end of the little slope) and switch Kongs. If you did it right, you'll fall through...
I'll submit it when I add the bonus stages in my map. That will take me at least an hour, no doubt.
By the way, thanks for reminding me about that site (I forgot about it until now) -- there are some other maps that I ripped from two other games that I like that I've been meaning to submit.
Yep, I can make Dixie pink (well, sort of, more on that later) and Kiddy blue. Yep, I can color them separately. However, the problem lies in a few things. First of all, like I mentioned before, the game is limited to eight different sprite palettes which are the same throughout the game. One of the...
Thanks! However, I have no idea how to make them all level dependent. I think that requires ASM (assembly) hacking, which I've never done before and have no idea how to do. So unless I ever figure it out, which I doubt, then I'll have to stick to all the levels being the same color. Oh well... I'm j...
I chose the fourth-to-last barrel. Hehe. I also very slightly changed some other sprite colors, too, mainly making all their shadows darker so it looks better. It's not THAT noticable but it was bugging me. The brown looks slightly washed now but at least it's easy to see. I also brightened up the g...
Well, I know it's not an emulator problem; it's happened to me on my cartridge as well. Wait, was the COLOR code still activated even AFTER you started a file? For me, it goes away when I start a new game! Weird.
Sometimes, when I input in either the COLOR or MERRY code, it sticks even after I save and shut the game off. Other times, though, it doesn't. I'm not entirely sure how to reproduce this, but if I remember correctly, it seems to happen when I also enter it at the same time that I enter in the TUFST ...
It didn't have any white at all... anyway, I came up with a bunch of possible designs for all these barrels. I don't really know if any of them are any good, though. What do you think? http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/6852/dkbarrelsor0.png Also, the first barrel is the original one (in other words...
It didn't help much. The video quality is decent, but the sound is still screwed up, and it leaves a stupid watermark on the top left (though it isn't as bad as Hypercam, but still annoying).
I've been meaning to do this for quite some time now, and here is a color palette hack for the Game Boy Color version of Donkey Kong Land 3 (or Donkey Kong GB: Dinky Kong & Dixie Kong as the GBC version is called). Even though the Japanese version (the only GBC version out there) was a big impro...
I'll download this later today. I've learned not to like Megaupload though. It's way too buggy. And before I download it, how did you rip it? Just curious. I hope you didn't use the original version of VisualBoyAdvance...
