Done and done. Incidentally, I also have his sprite sheets from the DKC series. The King and Kaptain sheets are not actually complete, but that's really not so important as rendered images since sprites are so freaking tiny.
Yes, basically sample rips of the highest possible quality. This would include his numerous grunts and bellows along with the speech in the opening sequence. I tried asking at the Rare Witch Project, but no luck. Maybe none of the knowledgeable people actually read the topic; who knows. The only two...
So I think K. Rool is supercool. Over the last several months I've been trying to get ahold of a few pieces of King Krem lore in particular: his voice files, and the character model itself, from DK64. I've had moderate success with the latter and none at all with the former. In addition, I've been s...
Have we forgotten Big Ape City all of a sudden? We know there are more worldly ape civilizations out there than the DK crew's jungle haunts. Likewise, there are probably more Kremling factories and sweatshops than we know about. K. Rool's vast Kremling army is, after all, vast.
I recall a Rare article stating that the developer for DKL was adamant (at the time) that it would be absurd for a company to make a watered-down version of the same game. He made sure that DKL had its own unique levels, archetypes, baddies, etc. to diverge it from DKC and let it stand on its own. O...
How about a Boss feature? You clobber enough enemies / rack up enough points / stay alive / etc. long enough, and a boss will appear. Here you must use a more inventive shooting tactic, such as deflecting the boss' attacks and projectiles, 'batting' it away at the right moment, or utilizing an envir...
Cyclone: Please, scan that guide in if you can! Something that hard to find must be preserved on the internets. I know it would take some time, but heck, make it a project. We might even find more interesting background tidbits within. Either way, it would be awesome to see.
It's worth noting that numerous "save states" of the Rarewhere site were made on archive.org. If you can't access a link, through ANY roundabout means (accessing the same link from a different page can sometimes work), you could try one of the numerous other "states" logged here.
That's not the only instance of seeing a human skull-and-crossbones either. If you check out the main world map, the animated flag on top of K. Rool's keep is also the conventional Jolly Roger rather than the Kremling equivalent. The flags you can spot in the K. Rool's Keep and The Flying Krock maps...
Speaking of which... somehow I got the idea that Wrinkly's save cave was located somewhere central, but had lots of access tunnels (in the different worlds). I suppose that's a topic for another thread, though. In fact, this is the exact same explanation used in the extended story of DKC3. You can ...
Which reminds me; will descriptions from the DKC instruction manual itself be featured on the site? Some of them are excellent reads, and contain very interesting tidbits. Cranky's profile in the manual, for instance, describes him perfectly. It would be nice if the relevant passages from DKC's manu...
The DK64 manual and Cranky's in-game dialogue definitively state Donkey is his son. His very first line in the game is "Well if it isn't my lazy, good-for-nothing son." Leigh Loveday of Rare has expressed in the past that he's always thought of Donkey as Cranky's son, and the in-game grand...
The thing is that K. Rool really, really, really hates the Kongs and wants to wipe them out of existence. Specifically Donkey Kong and the island shaped after him. I don't think he appreciates the fact that the face of his most hated nemesis is carved into the very mountains. Not to mention the Kong...
Quyzbud: I had asked him two questions. I'll just repost them for you: A vast amount of 3D character models were created for the Donkey Kong Country series. Are they stored in the Nintendo archives never to be seen again, or are they stored in the Rare archives never to be seen again? Or were they s...
To my surprise, I don't mind the game being a fairly lighthearted affair in comparison to previous games. The same goes for DK64. It's strange, because there's obviously reason to be annoyed. I guess it still felt like a wholesome Donkey Kong experience, along with the way that humor was executed. I...
This would be a job for "Ask Dan" Owsen, but it looks like he's buggered off to Microsoft too. A crying shame, since he was personally involved with DKC's development.
It doesn't help that the big developers and head honchos of Nintendo, for the most part, don't actually speak English.
Postcounts and ranks in general slightly annoy me. Of course it feels great to look at it, and reflect on how much you've been able to talk about within the forum, but the feature becomes a nightmare in the hands of those who post senseless crap. Not that I feel this board will have a problem with p...
Quyzbud: In the GBA version they're identifiable as a type of rucksack, but I'm not totally convinced about the SNES version. You can kind of see it, but... guess I'm just used to thinking of them as giant peanuts. If they are rucksacks they're most likely parachutes. Fun fact for non-PAL gamers: th...
Well, the other day I recieved a response from Rare in regards to that. I may as well post the reply here: Hi Matt, Well I can't speak for Nintendo, as I have no clue as to what is in their archives. As for our own archives, most of the assets from the early to mid-ninteies were stored on DAT tapes,...
I can't speak for DKL 2 and 3 (because I don't own them) but I adore the first DKL; I still pull out the manual from time to time. Such an appropriate story in light of Cranky's endless grumbling in DKC. The game added a little more depth and a little more surrealism to Donkey Kong Island and its st...
Really, the game kind of toes the line between a port and a bastardization. God, those new sound effects did not help Dave Wise's attempts at ambience.
Out of curiosity while waiting for K. Rool news to show up, are the descriptions of the DK trophies any different from the fan-translated descriptions or is it basically the same?
Bit unfortunate to hear about SSE's story, but I was expecting something like that.
With regard to having land baddies and Kremlings separate... well, the games themselves make that distinction. If that's not a good enough reason, then I suppose integrating them is the way to go. For the record I like them separate too, but you know.
The trick of course is getting the library of 3D models and animation that were shelved when DKC ended procuction, if they even exist anymore. I fired off a question to Rare about it, but doubt it'll be answered.
As far as I'm concerned, the postcard is canon and the games follow real time. So far, there has been nothing to contradict this. either way I think it's rubbish. Not only would that mean the same tumultuous events with Wizpig occured twice in so many years, but simply skipping over 10 years with n...
Tiptup Jr.: It's hardly certain whether that promotional postcard is canon, as it's more likely just to be a 4th wall-breaking reference to his N64 outing; either way I think it's rubbish. Not only would that mean the same tumultuous events with Wizpig occured twice in so many years, but simply skip...
Firefox. During lunch hours my fellow workers sometimes complain about the billion viruses their computers pick up, and I keep wondering what their problem is. My only conclusion thus far: they're using IE.
