I beg to differ. kong_radials_gsubc_deformation.png Vertically stretching the top half of the text can make a world of difference. Also, try using the condensed version of the font, at 75% width. But eh, if Cyclone can't duplicate this technique with the 3D software he uses, Showcard Gothic wouldn't...
I think I've found the font! It's either Gill Sans Ultra Bold or Gill Sans Ultra Bold Condensed. Unfortunately, they aren't free, but you most likely have them if you have Microsoft Office on your computer.
i don't think it's necessary for the font to be top-heavy. It looks that way because of how it is deformed on the tire. The font in question appears to be used in several places within the first two DKC games. Here are all of the instances I could find (click the spoiler to view them): that_font.png...
@Gaz: Nice observation! The similarities are uncanny.
@Qyzbud: Not sure, but I think the pages in that book depict Mayan sculptures. The illustration on the left page appears to be a face of some sort. I can still see how you would interpret it that way, though.
The Spanish footage has to be from a slightly later point in development than the Brazilian ad. Here's why: ⋅ In Arich's Ambush, Arich's graphics now match the final version's (the wider portions of his legs are black instead of the narrower part, and his head is larger), but the level sti...
No problem. I did try a few values in each code beyond the first six or so, but found that they only resulted in garbled sprites, palettes used by other objects, and even game crashes (in the case of the voice modifier). The tool I used to find these graphics is TiledGGD . When using this tool, you ...

@EvangeliKong: I did. Peach and Toad also look similar to their SMRPG models. Rare probably used whatever references were convenient at the time to build the models. Even more unused character sprites found in the ROM: http://mattrizzle.caffie.net/img/tcrf/dkp_spaceworld_chr_sprites.png There are sprites for the other angles you would see them from, but I don't have the patience (or time) to rip 372 more of these. Unfortunately, the graphics designer messed up o...
Well, look what came out of this: http://mattrizzle.caffie.net/img/tcrf/dkp_spaceworld_chr_sel_icons.png The character select icons from the Spaceworld build, including the Mario characters!!! Oddly, I couldn't find Bowser's palette with the rest. This isn't the end of it, either. There appears to b...
I'd assume this is for quality assurance; if the DKCRE doesn't work properly when used with these hacks, it could give the impression that the hacks, or the DKCRE (or both) are poorly coded, when that is far from true. Yes, though it's more about Boss Blitz (and my own paranoia) than DKCRE, to be h...
Alright, now the options menu has been altered: http://mattrizzle.caffie.net/img/dkc_boss_blitz/dkc_boss_blitz_options_rev.png Yes, that's a new team color scheme. If you don't remember, Diddy used his standard palette in two color schemes in the original release. To remedy this, I paired Red D.K. w...
Fixed another bug in Brigand Barrage. Beating the game with 99:59.99 on the timer would cause it to freeze at a black screen, because I forgot to update the pointers of a couple of jump commands. You can grab the updated patch from the link in the first post, below the "Donkey Kong Country 2: B...

@Simion32: On a good note, blanking out the music (as your Zero-Music Patch does) is one step toward preparing the DKC ROM for MSU-1. That's what BMF54123 had someone do for Super Mario Odyssey...
Nope. The most extensive documents I've seen on the audio formats (in plural because DKC1's format differs from the one used in DKC2 and 3) are written in Japanese... :headache: ...and I'm in the dark when it comes to the meaning of several of the musical/audio terms used to describe the control byt...
@Simion32: You are correct in assuming that it is a sound-font related issue, but the real sound effect is supposed to use neither of those source files. The platform sound effect data references a source file (a.k.a. BRR sample) that isn't even loaded in the Life in the Mines sound-font. Thus the s...
Brigand Barrage has been updated yet again. The most notable thing is the change I've made to the cutscene at the end of K. Rool Duel, as suggested by Qyzbud. It now differs depending on whether you're playing K. Rool Duel as a single battle, or as part of the All Bosses mode. For the former, I've r...
How about these from Swanky's Sideshow? http://mattrizzle.caffie.net/board_stuff/dixie_happy.png http://mattrizzle.caffie.net/board_stuff/kiddy_sad.png The talking D.K. head looks cool, but crying Dixie looks odd because of the hair. I really like the : facepalm : and : diddyshocked : ones too.
Here's something different from the other custom sprites in this thread--an extended version of the HUD font with most of the non-accented characters found in DKC3's menu font:

Excuse my inattentiveness if this has been answered, but how did you go about creating the red menu text? Is that actually stored as a font in the game? Same question regarding the 'PAUSED' text, which looks more like the banana counter's font than standard DKC2 title text (more golden, nicer shadi...
Since there seems to be some demand for this, I've quickly slapped together a DKC2 Sound Test patch. This patch disables all music in the game, and hijacks the pause routine to have a Sound Test Menu. dkc2_sound_test.png Press L or R to cycle through the different music/sound banks (this takes time,...
And do you really use hex strings to modify the code? I would think that assembly language exists... but maybe I'm wrong as far as the SNES goes. You're correct on both counts. I do it that way because I'm used to writing things out in hex. While I have used assemblers (such as xkas) before, my exp...
Ok it only occurs when you press any other button except Start when you get hit, so that's a relief. I definitely need to fix that, though... Thanks for pointing it out. EDIT : Patch updated. Thank you! By the way, I took a peek at the latest video, and I must say it's a bit odd hearing the target prize/boss beaten music when K. Rool is defeated... was it a conscious decision to include this? That's what normally happens when you disable the code that skips the victory themes in the K. R...

I'm not ready to release this just yet. Two more bugs reared their heads a few minutes ago in Kleever's Kiln. If you position yourself over the lava pit when throwing the last cannonball at Kleever, Diddy and/or Dixie will fall, but not die until Kleever falls into the lava. Additionally, if you gra...
Not just the discovery of an unused music track, but a patch restoring it, to boot? Awesome. Stuff like this always raises more questions than answers. Was this track's omission a result of a lack of communication? Did someone on the team find the high-pitched portion of the song annoying? All we kn...
Thanks. I'm glad you like them! One reason I separated the viewers from the games themselves--aside from making them feel like actual parts of the games--is extensibility. Others are free to build their hacks on top of these. Say, for instance, someone is developing a hack that replaces sprites and ...
